UK goodies to send to the US
« on: June 28, 2007, 10:40:03 AM »
One of my husband's buddies in California sent him a surprise goody package which arrived today and we thought we'd send him a package in return full of Brit goodies. Only we can't think of any! We want to send gourmet type things, rather than things like piccalilli & marmite that he probably won't like. So far we've come up with Nandos sauce & hot lime pickle, neither of which is even strictly British, or things that can't possibly be posted like Scottish salmon or regional cheeses. So, help please!

Biscuits have been a huge hit with my family. Even the non-gourmet ones, like chocolate digestives and Jaffa cakes. Perhaps marmalade, ginger preserves, blackcurrant jam, etc.? Also, tea is about as British as it gets!  ;)

How abut York "Not For Girls" chocolate bars? My family back home got a kick out of the labels, like "Please Don't Feed the Birds!"

Harrods also has good chocolates and teas, packaged in touristy-type tin cans.

How about HP sauce? Or maybe a small British cookbook?

Hard to think of gourmet things; what comes to mind are things Americans find impossibly funny. A tin of Omelette 'n' Chips, for example.

Some posh cheese straws, herb-y crackers, shortbread, fudge or butter tablet?

When I was in Scotland years ago I bought a tin of Spotted Dick to carry back to the US.

That was a huge hit, and it never got opened!

If someone were to send UK goodies to me I would want Kenco coffee, shortbread, Mars bars and Sharwood's Black Bean sauce. Mmmmm good!

Cadburys is a must for all my packages.
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

Tinned Haggis  (pity you couldn't send the real McCoy)
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

What about some small bags of the "unique" flavors of Walker's Crisps?
Lamb & Mint and Prawn Cocktail are the first one's that come to mind.
I've only seen those flavors in a specialty shop in the US.
