Last year my boyfriend made my bro and sister in law (Canadian residents) a UK care package...can't remember exactly what was in it, but there was Reggae Reggae sauce, HP and worcestershire sauce, proper loose leaf tea, cadbury's chocolate...

They bought us Hershey's kisses!

Just wanted to mention that the following are all (IIRC) pretty widely available in the US already:  worcestershire sauce, Cadbury's chocolate, Twinings Tea, Cadbury Creme Eggs (the eggs around Easter-time only, but as a result, I wouldn't consider them a novelty per se).

Things I gave US people last year:  the big holiday tins of M&S sweet biscuits, Cadburys selection packs, some Whittards gift packs, spotted dick, & I forget what all else!  :)

Though its not a novelty- the cadbury's chocolate in the states is crap
I brought back cadbury creme eggs in april and compared the ones in the states to the ones I brought. No comparison. The UK ones won by a long shot.

Can you ship christmas crackers? If so, that would be fun!

Definitely send Cadbury chocolate anyway! I agree Cadbury over here is crap compared to the UK stuff. We try to get DB's parents to send us Cadbury as much as possible. We also brought over loads when we went to England over Christmas. Creme Egg bars may be nice. A lot of people like creme eggs, but feel they are too rich. I love the Creme Egg bars because you can have just a slice. :)

I wouldn't bother with Worcestershire sauce as that is highly available over here and although I haven't really had UK W.S., DB's never mentioned a difference in taste and I use it fairly often.

I've found marmalade over here as well, it's just more hidden in the jam and jelly section.

Wine Gums may be nice.

Christmas Crackers are available, but the ones I've seen over here are crap and I've only really seen them at The Christmas Tree Shop. If you are allowed to send them, those would be fun. We're going to look into that for DB's first Christmas here this year.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but some people might like Salad Creme. We can get it in the British section of the grocery store, but it's pretty expensive and I've had a few things from that section either be out of date when I bought it or go out of date shortly after. I learned my lesson to really check the dates on those things though. DB thought maybe it was the milk that was making his PG Tips taste so strange! ;)

My family are pretty particular to M&S Teacakes, Yorkshire Tea (we live in Yorkshire  ;D) and Aero chocolate bars.

One thing that's really nice is Devon Marmalade (its a different recipe to every other one I've tried - its made using Honey) - that may be something to send.   :)

Britwife - if you're still looking for something to send to your DH's friend & he likes Bailey's you might want to send him some Heather Cream.  Its lovely and a bit more complex taste to Bailey's but soooo good!   ;)

Can you ship christmas crackers? If so, that would be fun!

Simple answer - no.  They're classed as a firework.   :P  DH & I looked into this extensively when we were getting married as we wanted to use them as favors.  Most airlines ban them as well for the same reason.   :P  You can usually get general crackers from World Market, although there are places that will make them to order in the US.   ;)

I return to the US on Dec 22...Christmas Crackers are *such* a good idea! I'm going to get some to bring home for Christmas....I just need to know where I can find them ;)

(My family/friends are all going to get prezzies from the UK as their gifts, I'll probably be shipping A LOT home the week before!)

Just be sure to put them in checked luggage (and even then, there's a risk they might not make it). Mine have always come through fine but they do warn you about them, I think.

I ordered some christmas crackers from Amazon.com one year and had them shipped to my parent's house in PA. Last year they were sold out by the time I checked, so if you're going to do that start looking early!

It doesn't hurt to start now! I think I waited until sometime in November and they were sold out.

I've found crackers in TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Home Goods in the past. They probably have them by now. ::) ;)

(to revive an old-ish thread...we're going over for Christmas and I want to bring some fun stuff to thank my aunt/uncle for putting us up for 10 days!)

Is it worth it to try and take Christmas crackers with us or should I just try and buy some there?  We want to share some fun British Christmas traditions like Christmas pudding and mince pies, so having crackers at dinner would be really fun!

We had no problem taking them on British Airways. They just had to be in the original box.
