Car troubles
« on: June 29, 2007, 10:26:52 AM »
Morning all!!!!

Gosh, got a story to tell all of you.  I was on my way to work this morning, I was on the came road as the school that I teach at and my car just stopped in the middle of the road [smiley=inquisitive.gif] So I put on my hazards and tried to turn it over a few times, it started to rev and then stopped.[smiley=confused.gif]

The police [smiley=bobby.gif] turned up and stopped traffic so that I could roll my car over to the side of the road :-[, while I was reversing a couple of buses full of kids from the school slowly rolled by.  I called into work to get someone to help me out.

6 member os staff came  to help me.  Then they discovered thatI had just ran out of petrol. :-[  They all started laughing and filmed it with their phones.  So it has been sent around the staff email now [smiley=gossip.gif].

I am in my classroom, sooooo embarrassed.

 ;D

That reminds me of my sister.  She came into the house all panicked... she thought her steering column was broken.  I went outside to look.

She'd been driving on a completely flat tire.

I'm guilty of complaining about my car's performance... when I've been driving around with the parking brake on.

Yep...we picked up our car on Saturday and couldn't figure out why there was a red flashing light on the display....only took two days to figure out the parking brake was on.  Duhhhhhh.   ::)

I did the same thing last week. I picked the kids up from school in the Landrover and noticed the brake light was on. I drove home slowly and was panicking the entire way. When I got home and parked in front of the house I went to pull up the parking brake and it was already up. Duh!   ::)

Did that once shortly after getting my license--I was driving a manual transmission and kept killing it over and over and over in the school parking lot. I was practically in tears by the time I figured out the parking brake was on.  ::)

I never did learn to drive manual, and I'm not inclined to now, given the road congestion and driving on the "wrong" side of the road. Give me automatic any day!

I did that once. I didn't think it was a broken steering column because I wouldn't even know how to diagnose that! But I did think the motor was making a funny sound! It never occurred to me that it was a flat tyre ... even with all the other drivers flashing their lights and gesturing to me!  :P

If the steering column actually broke (or fell apart at a coupling), then the wheel would simply turn freely and you would not be able to steer the car at all.

Try a bit harder, Dennis.  ;)

By the way, you haven't met my father. Worst. Driver. Ever.

Same with mine, chary. He speeds, tailgates, cuts people off, etc., yet to hear him talk, he's the safest driver in the world.  ::)

There are good and bad drivers of both sexes.
