Thanks very much.
After reading my lease and jotting down a few things, looks like it will be December.

And will definitely stay on the boards - maybe not quite as much - but I've got some very, very good friends, and acquaintances, and even people I may not agree with, but always interested to hear what they have to say ;) , here.

I'm bummed to read you're leaving, but you know what's best for you. Good luck, and please keep in touch.

Thank you :)  I am excited.

I am 'happy' - it's not out of being unhappy; but just realizing I'm missing out on things I want to be doing, and I can do them better/ more easily in LA... let alone closer to family, etc.
The demands of my new job first and foremost (it's WAY more than I'd anticipated), and a bit about being committed to a flat just got me thinking... it's not me (not what I want to be doing).
It's good all the way 'round.
I love what I've done; no regrets.

I can't think of a better mindset to be in for starting afresh!

I always think, 'You cannot step foot in the same river twice.  For it is not the same river and you are not the same person.'

Best of luck!  :D

 :) thank you

Hurdle 1 accomplished:  conversation with the parents!

Beginning of conversation:  "Oh my god.  WHAT?!  Oh dear.  Why... (followed by lecture-lecture-lecture, most taken from "The Standard Book of Parental Lectures" that they are somehow required to state)

CUT TO:

End of conversation (an hour and a half later):  "Okay honey, well, you know we love you no matter what you choose, and we will certainly be happy to have you near again.  Good luck with getting it all ready, and let us know if we can help."

*whew*

Hurdle 2:  My (biased) 'appraisal' tomorrow - will I be giving notice, or stick it out...

TO BE CONTINUED... ;)

Wow I'm surprised to read this, but happy for you that you're doing what feels best for you. I hope all the hurdles turn out to be little bumps along your path that you find easy to get through. Glad you are sticking around UKY, you have lots of valuable info to share, lots of friends here, and of course your sense of humor couldn't be replaced.  :)

Good luck with everything!  Sometimes things just aren't right and you just have to follow your heart and hope you are making the right choice.

Elizabeth, after thinking about it, I'm going to give a humble opinion. If you truly want to make it as a comedian, you're better off here (think Ruby Wax). You know what you'll be up against if you move back to L.A. Either way, I wish you the best in your endeavors.

Oooo, yes!  The, 'Shall I bite my tongue or indulge in the satisfaction of 'Whilst I will always cherish the opportunities I have been given here, the time has come to move on.  It is with sincere regret that I resign my position . . . ' moment.

Let us know how it goes!

It actually went better than expected, so that's good.

I feel I need to clarify:  I am not leaving because I am unhappy, or something is not right; I'm leaving because... it feels like the right time to do so.
I am quite happy here; however, I've never envisioned myself growing old long-term here.  I've always pictured myself back in CA some day, and more and more lately, I've thought well, maybe it's time to get reestablished there again.  I feel ready to face the things I probably did 'run away' from, and I can see now better and different ways of doing things that I didn't before.

People don't always make big changes only out of misery or unhappiness!

Thanks for the career tip Suzanne ;)
I actually have never wanted to "make it" as a comedienne; acting's really my thing, the comedy's an offshoot, but I have a very solid network there should I choose to do it again in LA!

I really do appreciate all the good wishes - but I remain a HUGE fan of the UK, and still think London is the most amazing city in the world.  I am blessed to have been granted a childhood wish to live here 'one day.'  I did it.  And I hope one day to return, as a visitor, and enjoy all it has to offer!

E- I'm so excited for you. You have the courage to actually make that decision! It's hard to leave a place you ARE happy in, even if you know it's for the best. Best of luck! Go kick some LA butt!

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
