How to get your stuff from the airport to your house?
« on: July 05, 2007, 03:23:43 AM »
We will be arriving with 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs and a full luggage allowance, possibly plus some. How do you get your stuff home? Do you rent a van or something?

In our case, my husband and I divided our stuff and we took two taxis.  That was after the first taxi driver laughed at us for thinking we could fit everything into one.

Get a minicab van to come and meet you.

When arranging for cab or minivan pickups, it would help to let them know in advance that you have pets with you.  Some are quite funny about having pets in their vehicles.

We're always getting cards through our door about car services to the airport. Maybe ask someone in the area you're moving to if they know about such a service.

Are you moving somewhere where there's parking? Maybe renting a big car would be useful - then you'd be able to go to the grocery store, etc when you get there too!

Oh by the way Julia, did you ever find a relocation agent? Airport pick up should be part of their service to you.

yep,  i'll be meeting her on Monday and looking at places (we're taking a viewing trip) so i'll check with her but its good to know the other options if that is too cost prohibitive.

Just saw this ... we used Prestige cars and loved them so much we plan to use them just to get to and from the airport anytime we fly; I'm sure they or someone like them could do it. We brought the maximum luggage allowance, and they sent this big suv. We filled the back with luggage and sat in the back seats. There would've been room for a couple more people and some more luggage. In your case, due to the dogs, you may want two of these vans. It was 45 pounds from Heathrow to Wokingham (near Reading, which is where we stayed while we looked for a place to live). It would be quite expensive with two cars, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! If you can't use Prestige where you're going, ask your relocation agent and she can probably hook you up, maybe even get you a deal!
