I use to use Enterprise regularly and the thing I don't like about them is they really push the extra insurance. I think the employees are on commision to sell the insurance. Adding the insurance can double your rental rate I think. Anyway their presentation is very scary. "you will be charged even if the damage isn't your fault"

I never used the insurance until I moved to the UK - I always used my own insurance.  Now that I'm in the UK, I no longer have US car insurance, and Admiral won't cover a US rental, nor have I been able to find travel insurance that will cover the cost of replacing a wrecked car, so I've had to opt in for the rental insurance.  It's a rip-off - I've rented more than forty times, from anywhere from one day to three weeks, and never returned a car with even a scratch - but I am perpetually petrified of being sideswiped by an uninsured driver (there are tons of them around where my parents live :() and being held responsible for damage, so.....

Has anyone tried Avis? I just found out using them earns Delta miles, and we may give them a go on our next trip.

I've rented from them once - a one-way from Norwood, Mass to Peabody, Mass that was originally only supposed to last one day but turned out lasting a week!  They were very accommodating when we kept calling them up to extend the rental.... :)
