I was a little miffed at that.  I mean, why not call one son Albus and the other Severus?  Or Fred?

I have not, nor will I ever, forgive her for killing off Fred.  I may name my next pet Fred in his memory!

She said she considered whacking Arthur, but went for Fred instead.  I mean, weren't Hedwig and Dobby enough?  She could have at least snuffed Percy.

Exactly!  For years I've said that she should have Percy repent at the last minute, then die saving one of his parents/siblings.  Would have fit in perfectly with her love of allegory.

I love his Lucius so much, it's going to be difficult to watch him turn into a pathetic toad in the movies.

This reminded me of a great bit from a parody one of my friends wrote after OotP was released:

(A Death Eater approaches. We can tell it is Lucius Malfoy, because of his lustrous flowing blond locks)

Exactly. I couldn't believe that at all! I'm glad she didn't kill Arthur though, but I think I would have found that more bearable than Fred. 

I also agree that this book felt a little rushed. It was as if she was having such fun writing the other stories and completely forgot about setting up the horcruxes and had to scramble to fit it all into the last one.

I didn't mind Fred being offed. There are two of them after all, so it was OK.

I think I was prepared for bigger deaths going into the book, so what actually happened didn't shock me that much. All the hype about a main character dying, etc. had me thinking it might be Ron! I was pretty upset about Tonks, and the way JKR handled Dobby's death was very sad ... but that was it.

Sorry. I guess I'm just a cold hearted b*tch.

God, I forgot about that!! It was earlier on in the book, so it completely slipped my mind! Of all the deaths, that one upset me the most!! I'm always angrier over animal deaths than human ones.

Hedwig was uncalled for; I think that goes without saying.  And she died angry at Harry!

I went into this book fully expecting Mrs. Weasley to die.  Not that I wanted it, but I thought that would have been the worst death possible (since she was the only mother Harry ever knew).  I also thought that Ron might have been killed, but not as strongly as I thought it would be Molly.  Oh, and Hagrid.  Come on, 'fess up - we ALL thought Hagrid was a goner, didn't we?

Of course, I didn't expect Molly to have the BEST. LINE. EVER.

I really thought Percy, though I too had a terrible feeling it would be Mrs.  Weasley.  And I have to say that I thought Lupin, Tonks and Colin Creavy were just too much.

Yep. And, honestly? I wouldn't have minded that. I'd gladly sacrifice Hagrid to get Hedwig back.

I thought Ron was going to die. I like your reasoning for Mrs. Weasley, though. But I really thought it was Ron. I never for an instant believed Harry would die.

I understand JKR's thoughts of "it's war and anyone could die" but I do think she want a little over the top for killing of characters that she knew would upset people.

I definitely agree that killing Hedwig was just uncalled for!

To be honest, I was so excited about the book that I had read Wikipedia's entry about it while waiting for my book. It all just seemed so outlandish that I didn't think it was correct but it was.
