« on: July 21, 2007, 12:26:06 AM »
I baked my own birthday cake.....in what crazy, effed up world does that happen?? This one apparently  [smiley=laugh4.gif]  Vanilla rum cake with dulce de leche filling with rum buttercream then covered in fondant.  YUMMY.  Again, not perfect  but I love it!

That is awesome, you should do that as a side business or something.  You definitely have the talent.

That's what I was thinking!  Why aren't you making some money with this?!

Thanks for all the compliments!  The cake did taste awesome!  I have always been a baker but I haven't always decorated.  I am only just starting to teach myself and this is only the 4th cake I ever decorate.  Hhhmm......I think I'm gonna eat another chunk right now  ;D

June, that is amazing! You should definitely consider doing this professionally!

I love dulce de leche. It was one of the fillings for our wedding cake, which was one of the highlights of the day! Really looking forward to going home at Christmas and eating the top layer which is in my Mom's freezer. I kept joking that I was going to eat it myself when I went home (without my husband) in June.

One of the layers of our wedding cake was vanilla rum with dulce de leche  ;D  Of course, it was MUCH better than mine.  As far as I am concerned, no one makes cakes like Cake Designs By Edda in Miami and I can't wait to move back there and find ANY excuse to order one of their cakes!  BTW, dulce de leche is VERY easy to make and tastes much better than the stuff they sell already made at the supermarket.  Just take a can of condensed milk (full fat, not the light stuff) and if you have a pressure cooker, cook it covered in water for 20 minutes after it starts hissing.  If you don't have a pressure cooker, cook it in boiling water for about an hour.  Open can....voila!
