Be careful with the type of light. Transformers convert voltage, but not frequency (which is 60Hz in the U.S., 50Hz U.K.). If the unit just uses filament lamps, or fluorescent tubes fed from electronic driver circuitry then the frequency difference won't be an issue, but if it uses conventional fluorescent lights then the lower frequency can cause problems, including the ballast running hotter than normal and the tubes having a shorter life.
