Are you tired of cakes yet???
« on: July 26, 2007, 01:05:54 PM »
Sorry but I get all excited about them!  This is my first attempt at a sculpted/3D cake.  I didn't bake the cake this time because I just wanted to try the decorating part.  I bought a madiera cake from M&S.  The bun is too dark but getting flesh color (which is what it needed) is very difficult.  Other than that, I'm very happy with how it came out.  Thanks for looking!

June, your awesome cakes make me think of this guy: http://www.charmcitycakes.com/noflash/index.cfm?rd=cakes

I was going to buy one for a friend's baby shower, but I didn't want to spend $250 on a cake to feed 20 people. You could make a pretty penny if you keep this up!

Your cakes look fab... but I do get a bit uncomfortable when they're madeira cakes...

That's fantastic, June! Is your fondant recipe a good one? I tend not to use fondant because, although it looks fabulous, I never really like the taste of it.

I admint I have been using store bought fondant mainly because I do not have a stand mixer and mixing fondant by hand is a b***h.  We eat it but I also put a thin layer of buttercream or other frosting between the cake and the fondant and the fondant itself is very thin.
