I made an apple pie today to take to our friends' house for dinner tonight.  Not sure I'll have time to post a pic on this one because we're taking off pretty shortly for the afternoon.  I made a little pastry apple shape for the middle of this pie & it does look nice.

It's the first pie I've made recently (this summer, this year) that isn't made with soft fruit though (other pies were berry & peach), so will let you know how it turns out.  I used Bramleys & threw in one Granny Smith for good measure.

That sounds nice, Mrs R! I made a tart last week, but didn't take a pic of it. It was a pseudo-tarte tatin. I say pseudo because I used Delia's "cheating" recipe. It turned out great!

(Does that count as a pie?)

Ooooooh........... What is Delia's cheating recipe?  I've had the WORST luck making Tarte Tatin.  I've tried 3 times and I've failed all 3 times.

It's here!

It's not actually called a tarte tatin, but it's close enough. She uses caramel from a jar, but I couldn't find any good stuff so I made my own - which was really easy.

Last week I made a huge raspberry/tayberry cobbler (had to feed 10 people).  I went to get the camera to take a picture and my DH started serving up before I could get a picture.  It looked OK but tasted a tiny bit like heaven!

I made a sausage & potato pie for supper tonight!  Shortcrust pastry on the top only -- homemade, of course.  But it could have done with some gravy, so we'll have the leftovers on Thursday night - with gravy! :)

I made another fake-chicken-and-mushroom spectacular, but rolled the filling in the pastry rather than putting it in a pie dish, so it could be served in slices like a roulade/wellington.   All this pie talk is really bad for Dan's WW efforts (and the attempt to reduce the size of my own backside)!!!

I just realised that I made a fantastic apple pie last Sunday but sorry, no pictures.

My mother was horrified at how sloppy the crust was (I was being lazy about the perfection of rolling out the pastry cause I had underestimated the amount of pastry for the top)  - but I kept telling her

"pastry is very forgiving.  Just don't work it too much"

It all came out fantastically in the end and she was amazed.

She is 70 and has just recently made her first apple pie from scratch!

LOL!  Interestingly enough, back in the day (this is many moons long gone by now), my mom was convinced she was a hopeless failure at making pie (and it didn't help that she was always comparing her efforts to my grandma -- the formidable family pie maker), so she had more or less given up on it.  And then I taught my mom to make pie -- I was 20-something at the time, she would have been around 60 then.

Steve made us a gorgeous chicken and leek pot pie last night.  He's got a photo on his phone so I'll try & post it later.
