All right, I've just joined the ascetic brigade, now that there is one! My "issue" is that I don't care that much for pie crust. Especially not the soggy, gummy, flavorless bottom crust. Ewwwww.

Plus pie has some strange psychological overtones for me--possibly due to too many church potlucks involving nasty gooey canned pie filling. And Cool Whip.

I'm not completely anti-pie. I adore pecan pie, which reminds me of my grandpa. I'll eat the obligatory slice of pumpkin at Thanksgiving if someone else has made it, provided there's real whipped cream. Myself, I make pumpkin cheesecake instead.

And to top off the inconsistency, I really like, and make, tarts. They're thin and elegant, which avoids my psychological issues, and the crust is usually tastier and less soggy on the bottom. And they come in more interesting flavors than pies. Chocolate and cranberry...mascarpone, ginger, and grapefruit...almond and blood orange...
Ok, I've now convinced myself that I have some serious problems!
