I've never gone back to the US with the intention of seeing my family except the time my sister was getting married and then at the last minute I had to cancel because my son was in the hospital. I go back to the US once or twice a year to bring the boys back to see the beast but usually I just stay for a few days and go shopping then come back home to the UK. Once in awhile my mother may meet me in Chicago but that's only happened twice.

Once a year.  Maybe less soon considering my parents moved to NC and friends and the rest of my family are in NY... so visits will be getting alot more expensive!

I haven't been back in 3.5 years now.  Before kids, I would go once a year.

Haven't been in over three years now, but have tickets to see the family over Thanksgiving holidays. My brothers and sisters are pretty far spread out in the US and we all are going to be at my parent's house for Thanksgiving for the first time in seven years!  ;D

I see my family once per year.  It's always been for Thanksgiving but I think I'm going to switch it to summer.  Squidge's birthday is in June and while she's not in school it would be better to spend a few weeks during the summer.  We don't have any family in the UK and I want her to have  big family birthdays like I had growing up.  Once she's in school we won't be able to do that. If I stop feeling guilty about spending money (the curse of this SAHM- why can't I just spend money w/out feeling bad?!!?!) we might do summer and Thanksgiving.

I'm leaving today-heading back to England after spending 6 weeks here in MA

Oh dear...this thread is making me realize I need to cut the cord.
I have been here since 2005.
2005 - 5 times
2006 - 8 times
2007 - 6 times
2008 - I think I will try and scale it down...maybe 4 times.

My parents live in Boston, so the london to boston flight is an easy one.  And my company's headquarters are in Boston, so that is always good for at least one trip a year.

I don't think I will ever scale down to less than twice a year.  I miss home way too much.  Love living here, but love going home for a few days too.

This year is an exception because my Dad is sick but DH and I plan on a yearly trip to the states, and my Mom comes here once a year.  I told him when we got married that I had to go back at least once a year..

I promised my mom that if I moved to the UK, I would visit every Christmas. So we will be there this Christmas, and then in May when we get Married, and then Back for Christmas.. So I am assuming 2 times a year for now. ;D

I moved from the States in August 2004 and since then my visits there to see my family in New York state have ranged between going five months without a visit to just over a year without a visit there (although that was partly because they came around for my wedding during the stretch of time); it gets to be a bit of a shock when I go a long time not being in the States, the accents, big roads and bright lights overwhelm me at first!

no need to cut the cord karin!

i'm in a similiar boat in that i travel for work a lot and can usually swing a few visits to the us that way.  also, my parents (and little sisters) live near the US headquarters of the company i work work for so I don't have to use vacation days to see them.

2004 (move in June)- 1
2005- 4
2006-4
2007- 3 (thus far... probably another 1 or 2)

I was thinking I went too much too, but I think I am jealous of Karin!!

2005 - moved here in August, went home for Turkey day
2006 - 2 times, one time was for my wedding, spent 6 weeks at home
2007 - once and it was glorious, 2 week road trip to see all of my friends and family, makes me sad to think about it now, I miss them! We had planned Christmas there this year, but now I don't think we can afford it, the summer trip was unplanned.

We plan to start a family next year and i hope that will entice my family to visit. None of them have come over yet! It's a little depressing, I thought maybe if I wait long enough they will make the trip, but not yet. Is $97 so much for a passport? grrrr...

I moved June of last year, and I went home for Christmas, and then an unscheduled trip home for grandma's funeral in April.  I was thinking about going next August for the State Fair, but I doubt that will happen now.  It's sad to say, but I doubt I'll get back to the US before I have to go back for another funeral.

I think it will end up being about twice a year.

I've been here since Oct., and went home for 2 weeks in June (primarily for a family wedding). It was great, but also incredibly stressful trying to see so many family and friends in a short amount of time. I felt horrible having to schedule people in, but unfortunately that's the way it is.

We're going home for 2 weeks at Christmas, and then I have to go home to be in a friend's wedding next May.

My parents have each come twice in the last year, and my brother/sister-in-law and nephew are coming in February, so I am very lucky in that respect.

I currently live in the same house as my family - so no need to travel yet, but once I go over to the states next year, I'm only planning on seeing them at most once a year. I'll be living pretty much solely on PhD funding (TA/RA assistantships), so won't have much money for trips back and my family can only afford to travel to the US once every 2 or 3 years.

I'm moving over in January and at the moment, the plan is to fly home in July 2008 for my brother's uni graduation (and possibly my own graduation, depending on when I finish my UK thesis) and then my parents are hoping to visit me in 2009. After that... who knows? It's really going to depend on flight costs, how much free time I have for holidays and how much I'm missing my favourite UK foods/drinks/shops etc., lol!
