« on: July 29, 2007, 10:27:17 PM »
Who would pay £3.78 for a freaking pint of Ben and Jerry's???

I buy a loads of ice cream when it goes on sale, but the rest of the year I just long for it. However, I refuse to pay that much for a freaking pint of Caramel Chew Chew!

Just got a pint of B&J Fossil Fuel for 2 quid yesterday!

Yes, I refuse to pay for it at that price. We used to have an ice cream maker but it died. That's the cheap way to make premium ice cream!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

It's on offer - half price - in Somerfield at the moment. I bought a pint of Fossil Fuel and a pint of Chocolate Fudge Brownie for £4 last week

Ooh, good, I can walk to Somerfield tomorrow.
If I have room in my freezer, what with Haagen Daz being on offer at Asda two weeks ago.

Just a word of warning - the Somerfield offers usually only last a week or so, so they may be back up to full price in the next few days.

ETA: I just checked their website - the half price offer ends on Tuesday (31st).

I pay full price on Ben and Jerry's over here in the US if I can afford to splurge a little and I have a craving.  The frozen yogurt chocolate brownie tastes almost as good as the original but a lot less fattening.

There's a recentish thread about ice cream makers here:

And I think there's an older one somewhere as well, but I couldn't find it.

I have one and it's not a pain at all! Carrie is our current Ice Cream Queen and has been experimenting with all sorts of wonderful flavours.

Having said that, I have been known to shell out £3+ for a tub B&Js ... if it's a real ice cream emergency and I desperately need it ... and as long as it doesn't become a habit.

Mackies ice cream is divinely creamy and delicious and not too pricey, a couple of quid for a standard 1 litre tub.

I had an ice cream maker and I have retired it to my garage. I never have enough room in the freezer for the bowl, and to be honest, I think it almost cost £3.78 with all the ingredients and to be honest, well Haagen Daaz is nicer...mainly because I didn't have to make it!!!

Last week before I went to the USA Tesco had Ben and Jerrys half price. I'm not sure it's still on sale but I always stash a few away in the freezer in case I have a break-down.   :D

Warning, the ASDA Häagen Dazs offer seems to be for a reason...or else we're unlucky.  Bought some Baileys flavor & it would never freeze properly...we finally ate it being the consistancy of half-melted soft serve ice cream.  I think there was something wrong with it.

Just went to the Ben & Jerry's music festival (Sundae on the Common) yesterday, ironically enough, with free, unlimited cones of all B&Js flavors.  Ironically, that made me appreciate the premium ice cream even more, because they really DO put more into it.  If you read about where their ingredients are sourced, you appreciate it more, I think.  For example, the brownies are from some center that employees homeless people, the vanilla is all Fair Trade, the eggs are free range, and the cream itself is from (supposedly) ethical dairy farms.  I'm not huge on the whole ethical foods thing (quite honestly can't afford to be), but it is comforting.  Also, B&J is easily the CHUNKIEST ice cream out there, so you get a lot of bang for your buck with the ingredients!

I will really shut up now, as I sound like a commercial :P.  Anyway, I don't mind paying that much as a TREAT every once and a while for my favorite Cherry Garcia or Half Baked! (though the new flavor Bohemian Raspberry is to DIE for)

Ohhhhh!  Buy one!  Buy one!  Not a pain at all, they just require a little advanced planning.  (That reminds me, I really should make some this week.)

I just wish they'd have some "normal" US flavours like hagen daz coffee.... I'd pay £3 occasionally to get my favourite flavour.. YUMMMM nothing like real coffee ice cream with jimmies/sprinkles also lovely with a bit or real maple syrup on it..
Now i think of it prolly a good thing its not here or i'd be as big as a house ROFL  ;D
