OMG I got some vanilla pomegranate swirl ice cream at Whole Foods (in AZ, so I dunno if they carry it at the UK WF!). I think it's called "Sheer Bliss" and it's a small container (a pint I think) for $4. I haven't even finished it yet, because it's SO good that I can only eat a few bites here and there. It's SO YUMMY! This isn't the right flavor, but that is what the little container looks like.

ETA: I love how it's labeled "ULTRA SUPER PREMIUM"  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Yes, I agree that the flavor choice here isn't as good. I miss Breyers, too. I love their vanilla and mint chocolate chip.

I miss Breyers too...Does anyone remember ''Heavenly Hash''?...That was my all-time fave ice-cream flavor..It had almonds, chocolate flakes, and swirls of choc. and vanilla.

YUM!! [smiley=smitten.gif]

Seriously, people, get yourselves ice cream makers and make your own Heavenly Hash! It'll be so much better than Breyer's!

I must admit, the container is what drew me to it in the first place.  :)

My whole family goes nuts over Braum's but I'm not really a fan! I guess I just don't get it ;D Everytime we go back to Oklahoma though, we always make a trip or three to Braum's!

DH just told me that 'premium' and 'super premium' are actually relevant terms in ice cream!  Premium - 10% butterfat, super premium - 20% butterfat.  Or so he thinks... ;D

Modified to add:

Quote
A word about "premium": High butterfat content -- between 14 and 16 percent -- defines what the industry calls premium ice cream . (Although some makers label their product "super-premium" if the butterfat exceeds 15 percent, this is more a marketing term than an industry definition .) By comparison, most commercial brands found in supermarket freezers, unless marked "premium," meet only the minimum butterfat standard of 10.5-11 percent .

I was watching a cooking program a few nights ago and the chef said something like, "Here's an easy ice cream recipe you can try at home for instant and delicious ice cream." And then he proceeded to dump dry ice and liquid nitrogen in a mixer with cream. WTF?!? It worked, but I'm lucky if I have vanilla pods at home, not Alfred Noble's lab.

Hee! Sounds like Heston Blumenthal!

Speaking of easy ice cream recipes you can try at home, you don't actually need an ice cream maker to do it. A friend of mine makes ice cream all the time without one. It just means you have to take it out of the freezer and stir pretty often. But it's definitely do-able!

Yep it is do-able. Have to remember to stir in periodically which is a pain, but it works. And it's good.
