Tesco also sells an herb and garlic dressing that tastes exactly like good ranch. I've had both the Tesco brand and a Kraft brand and they're really good. The bottle just says something like "herb and garlic dressing" and the description says "ranch style". It's cheap and tastes good, so it works for me.

I really liked the Pizza Express (I think that's what it's called) dressing.

I don't know where to buy it, but I know that you can have your sandwhiches smothered in it at Subway ^_^
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

I have ALWAYS hated ranch dressing....Until I moved to the UK?? ???

For some reason, a few years ago, I started craving it like mad..

Morrisons usually have a deal on it once or twice a year and that's when I stock up..Its the Paul Newman's brand. Although, I'm sure I've seen a Morrisons own brand ranch dressing as well..

Anyway, I've got about 5 bottles in my cupboard; if you really fancy some, I'll send it your way! ;)

That is really funny. I was actually in Booths yesterday and a bit annoyed that they did not have Ranch. I appreciate the recipe that was posted here!

You can also make it.

Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing
15 Saltines
2 cups Dry minced parsley flakes
1/2 cup Dry minced onion
2 tablespoons Dry dill weed
1/4 cup Onion salt
1/4 cup Garlic salt
1/4 cup Onion powder
1/4 cup Garlic powder

Salad Dressing:

1 tablespoon Mix
1 cup Mayonnaise
1 cup Buttermilk

Put crackers through blender on high speed until powdered. Add
parsley, minced onions, and dill weed. Blend again until
powdered. Dump into bowl. Stir in onion salt, garlic salt, onion
powder, and garlic powder. Put into container with tight-fitting
lid.

Store dry mix at room temperature for 1 year. Makes 42 1
tablespoon servings. To use mix--Combine mix, mayonnaise,
and buttermilk.

Yield: 1 pint.

For the saltine crackers there is a brand from Italy that comes in a black package...wish I could remember the name I think it starts with a D that is just like saltines from the states.

Just a thought.

I've seen this recipe before, but was wondering if anyone had ever made it?  Does it taste like Hidden Valley?

I never understand why people buy stuff like that when they can make it at home very easily and have some real quality control!   ;D

I was in a Tex-Mex restaurant in Prague a few days ago, and they had home-made (well, restaurant-made!) ranch dressing.  It was absolutely gorgeous, and you could even make out the tiny chunks of minced garlic on your tongue.

Another vote for DIY and quality control!!   :)

it was fantastic!    cool/interesting decor, Country & Western music (proper, not contemporary), gorgeous food (including the aforementioned ranch dressing-- i had a taco salad, but i was looking at other dinerĀ“s plates piled high with ribs, chicken wings, tacos, those big onion bloomer things... yummm!) and fab margaritas!

My wife is OBSESSED with Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing.  I like it but not going out of my way to find it.  We bought the other brands mentioned here and all of them were gross.  Has anyone actually made that recipe yet and compared to Hidden valley?

Everytime a friend or relatives comes to visit us, we charge them one bottle of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing as the price of admission!

PS: Those Hidden Valley mix packets are gross. It has the taste and texture of spoiled milk mixed with cottage cheese.

I found this on the internet:

Quote
MOCK HIDDEN VALLEY RANCH DRESSING

1 tsp. chopped parsley
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. onion salt
1 tsp. M.S.G.
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. chopped onion, dried
1 pt. mayonnaise
1 pt. buttermilk

Mix well and refrigerate 1 hour before serving. Makes 1 quart.

LOL. I'd try the recipe posted on the front page of this thread instead.  ;)
