Dunkin' Donuts
« on: July 31, 2007, 04:05:37 AM »
Hello Everyone!

Now that we're officially moving in 2 days DH is worried about his slight obsession w/ DUnkin Donuts coffee.  An initial online search showed 1 DD near Piccadilly Circus, but now we're finding out that its a knock off...something like American Donut or somthing...What's the scoop?  DD or No DD in London...The official website says they are located in 33 countries, but it doesn't let you search outside US and Canada.

PS...we're not Starbucks fans at all so that just won't work!

COuntdown to the move:  T minus 2 days and counting!

I dunno about the coffee thing but it reminded me or something when I was there. Just like Papa Johns saying they are all over the world...but it's not Papa Johns it's a different company owned. It tasted NOTHING like PP Pizza :P

Hope you can find ur coffee...if not maybe something similar? Ever think of going to DD and asking them what kinda coffee they use? Maybe you could get that there...

No, there aren't any Dunkin' Donuts in London.  Not that I'm aware of.  And yes, that one in Piccadilly Circus is a knockoff.  Just like the "American Fried Chicken" and "Tennessee Fried Chicken" knockoffs of KFC, which actually IS in London.

you can mail order DD coffee... not sure if they send it overseas though.  too bad they don't mail order toasted coconut donuts.  they're the bomb.

good luck with the move!

The only Dunkin' Donuts in the UK I've ever found was in an arcade in downtown Birmingham. I think they've all been closed down now as Krispy Kreme is taking off. I'm sorry. I feel your pain. I really do. I could murder a blueberry cake donut and a coffee right now.

I stock up on DD coffee grounds everytime I come home to the USA. Last time I brought back 5, 1lb bags in my suitcase... and that was in February. I think I'll run out before christmas-- but we try to only drink it on the weekends and special occasions. :)

They used to have three dunkin donuts/baskin robbins combo shops in Glasgow.  But they all closed down, by 2000.  Which is very very sad as it is my favorite iced coffee in the world and dh loves it too.  (Ha HA, I got him addicted).  When I lived in RI we had five DD on my 20 minute drive into work and one was on the ground floor of my office building.

To be honest, I seem to remember that the ones in Glasgow only had donuts anyway, not really big on the coffee.  I find McDonald's iced coffee a not so bad subsistute, but I haven't seen the iced coffee here either and Starbucks is way too expensive.  And not as tasty.

That was the plan...to bring it over with us or have it shipped...but then the movers came and said that we might not get it through customs...so being as it's our first trip over, we're going to hold off on bending the rules, but has anyone experienced any problems with getting sealed food through customs.

I've never experienced a problem with customs for my coffee.  It was in my suitcase.. i dont know if that makes a difference.  I've even had friends and family bring me over DD coffee when they came to visit and none of them experienced any problems either.  Just my experience though..  :)

I was going to suggest buying bags of DD coffee and bringing them over too. I would think that coffee would be ok to bring.

Here's a link to the HM Revenue and Customs website for their banned and restricted goods.
http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageTravel_InfoGuides&propertyType=document&id=HMCE_PROD_008618

I don't see anything about coffee, unless it's counted under plants and their products. It says to contact DEFRA if unsure.

Uhoh, I think you're DH is going to have coffee withdrawal  :-[

I find coffee here to be MUCH stronger than it is in the US - almost undrinkable (by my standards anyway!) plus, it's super expensive in comparison... :\\\'(

Best to wean him off now!

you soooo don't want to go to this shop... unless you are desperate for a bite to eat at 2am!  ;) and even then the dodgy hot dog street vendor looks pretty good.

In all seriousness, please explain this obessession with brand loyalty to coffee especially prepackaged coffees.  ???

Fresh roasted is definitely the way to go. I discovered this place in London. YUM!! I cannot go back to grocery store coffee just like I won't drink instant coffee.

Can you mail the coffee to yourself? I did that when I first moved with a load of things. It might be the simplest thing as I don't think DD is over in the UK anymore

My mom mailed me over 2lbs of DD coffee once and it cost her around $20 to post it.. and the coffee itself is only worth about $10. haha.  Its an option.. but an expensive one  :o

My mom is in the habit of sending me coffee now, mostly the flavored kinds, she just sent some southern pecan Route 66 coffee that's YUMMY! I've always had a problem getting coffee here, it just seems too bitter.....perhaps because it's stronger as usuk2004 mentioned? Either way, mom just sent four things of coffee, three flavored and one regular, so I'm set for awhile. I would like to find some decent coffee here though, for those emergencies.......what do you all use?
