How did he propose?  I want details.....

Yes - we want details!  But I'm sure you're going to be very busy for a bit here - so enjoy & fill us in when you can!

Where are you going to be living, Dar?

Right now, it looks like one of several places (the British Army holds that decision, I'm afraid).  So, it could be either Surrey, Sussex, Yorkshire, or the Peaks.  It all depends what his army job ends up being.  He's put in for three different things and those are the areas where he could do his training and/or job.  It all just depends on what he gets selected to do.  He's already got a degree but hates the field so this is the new career.  But, I want to do some climbing in Wales, so I might just have to come visit you, Chary! You might even have your new house by then!  ;D

WOW!  WOW! WOW!!  I can't believe it how exciting.  How did he propose?  I want details.....YAY  DAR IS GETTING MARRIED!!

Okay, the proposal.  As many of you know, he originally proposed over the phone and then had a couple of freak outs and decided that wasn't the right way.  Lots of drama, heartache, and I posted on here about it.  Sometimes, all the phone and email communication in the world doesn't help you understand where a person is coming from at all.

Anyway, onto the actual proposal.  He arrived on a Monday and we planned to go rock climbing at our favorite spot in New Hampshire.  Well, it poured the day before we were to go so that meant that the climbing spot, which was very shady, was a boggy, swampy, muddy mess.  Apparently, he was going to propose there, but, didn't as we decided to hit the rock gym instead and he thought that it had a less romantic feel.  The next day, we left for Texas to visit my family.  We packed all our rock climbing gear because we were going to hit some well known spots around Austin, San Antonio, and the Hill Country.  Since it is so hot in Texas, we decided that we would climb early in the mornings finishing up by 11 a.m.  So, he thought, what better than proposing at sunrise on top of a big boulder that we just climbed together in my home state.  Romantic, right?

Didn't happen.  It was a monsoon whilst we were there.  I mean, in the 17 years I lived in Texas, I've NEVER seen rain like this.  The roads were flooded and we were basically house bound for a week.  We lost power several times a day and immersed ourselves in card games, trips to Blockbuster, and LOADS of Mexican food.  ;D

So, Thursday night, last week, we crawled into bed.  I was tired from having not slept well the night before (massive booming crazy thunderstorm kept me awake--I love thunderstorms) and really disappointed from not being able to climb.  He was next to me reading his book and then decided, I thought, to cuddle up next to me to go to sleep.  He spooned me and put his chin on my shoulder, like he does every night.  He said, very quietly "I want you with me in England for good and forever.  I want to marry you.  So, will you marry me?"  I said yes, of course!  He then told me about all his plans for a romantic proposal that literally got washed out.  They were great romantic plans but I really like the one I got.  Very quiet, simple, and down to earth like us.  Big gestures have never done it for me.  This had more meaning for me.

So, there ya go!  All the juicy details.  In two days, I am going to be married!  We get the license tomorrow!!   Woo hoo!   ;D  [smiley=love.gif] [smiley=smitten.gif]

Aww... that's so sweet! Sometimes the biggest plans are foiled by the unexpected. It probably is better that he did it that way. I mean, imaging trying to climb down a mountain when your legs have gone all jello-y from the excitement of the proposal? You could have killed yourself (ETA: That is, if you're as klutzy as I am!)!  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

I'm sitting here with a silly little smile on my face and slightly puddly eyes, and I'm not even that soppy usually! I agree that the best bits of relationships aren't the grand romantic ones but the quiet simple ones.

Where in NH are you getting married? I was born in Portsmouth!

And, I have to say, I am totally jealous of your week's worth of Mexican food...even if it is Texan and not New Mexican...  ;)

That's a good point!  I probably would have broken my leg or something!  ;D

We are getting married at the secluded rocky jetty off of Rye Beach!  I am sure you know right were that is since you are from Portsmouth (love that town, btw).  The place we got all our Mexican food from was called Chuy's and it wasn't at all Texan but proper Mexican food (enchiladas were round and flat, not rolled up like you see in most places) and the sauce had Hatch chilis!  Soooo good.  Now I want more!  Drool....

I think we might have a Chuy's here too! If I'm thinking of the same place, they have rockin mexican food! I'm planning on having my "going away" dinner at a local mexican place since I'm probably not going to find anything that's quite the same while I'm away.

Alas, we don't have Chuy's, I was thinking of Chevy's. http://www.chevys.com/

Oh yes you will!  Come to my house and I will make it!  I can't live without Mexican food (and after Texas, DF LOVES breakfast tacos!).

Awwww - how sweet!  I hope you get to come to Yorkshire or at least the Peak District!  The countryside (and opportunities for climbing) are just amazing up here! ;D

My brother was telling me a couple weeks ago that the Texas to Kansas corridor has been more or less under water this year! :o

Have a lovely day on Saturday! [smiley=smitten.gif]
