When do you get the visa after the interview?
« on: August 02, 2007, 08:09:03 PM »
So, we have an interview date!!!  I thought we'd get the visa the same day as that is what happened with me and the UK visa, but I see that they courier it to you.  How long after the interview date did people get their visas?

Hi,
it really depends on the consulate/embassy & the time of the year one applies, as they are busier in some areas and during certain times of the year;  but it usually can take anywhere from 3 days to a week. Wish you the best, I am sure you will see it soon.

Thanks.  Do they tell you at the interview whether or not you're approved?

The reason I'm asking is my husband (the Brit!), my son and I were planning on going out 2 days later for my son's first birthday.  We thankfully haven't booked the tix yet!  I wonder even if they don't tell you on the day if we could still go out and check in with the Embassy over the phone.  Any advice anyone?

Thank you again!!

I'm pretty sure she's talking about an immigrant visa for her husband to live in the US, not a UK visa.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

He'll find out on the day but it could take up to a week, (maybe longer, there are no guarantees) for him to get his passport back with his shiny new visa in it.

That's correct. When we did it back in '04 you had your medical appointment and visa interview the same day (much better to get it done in one day than traveling there two separate days).

If approved, you received your passport/visa within 1-2 days like clockwork. Unfortunately, that is not the case anymore. Ironic considering the fees have increased big time.

It was for a slightly different situation, but I had an interview in London for a US student exchange visa at the end of June 2003. I spent almost 4 hours waiting in line and when I finally got to the interview window, all they asked me was where and what I was studying and what my plans were for when I returned. Then they told me that the visa would be in the post and I should receive it within a week. Sure enough, 7 days later, the passport plus the visa page arrived on my doorstep :).

Yeah, I know - I got my K1 in '03, back in the days of Doc Phelan and his funky bathroom. ;D

I got mine the same day back then but, yeah, the system doesn't seem to be as smooth as it used to be.
