I had one of those moments yesterday
« on: August 06, 2007, 09:06:34 PM »
So it was hot yesterday. So after work I walked to my car and I thought...hey, I think I will pop into Tesco Metro for a lovely cold drink. I walked to the drinks cooler and looked for something that might just whet my whistle perfectly, I saw Water...no, Red Bull...no, Oasis...no, Diet Coke...no, a smoothie?...no.

It was at that moment that I realised exactly what it was that I wanted. I wanted a bottle of Iced Tea, don't care what brand, Snapple, Nestea...whatever but I wanted Iced Tea. In the end I got boring old WATER. Meh.

Only another 4 weeks until I go to NY for a visit. They better have some Iced Tea left.

I was chuckling to myself (well okay out loud) a few weeks ago when I saw the recipe stand at Sainsbury's with....

a recipe for.....

Iced tea.....   ;D

We have a few places (to include the lovely Coffee Republic that opened just around the corner) that actually do iced tea.. I have not been brave enough to try it.. but I think I will....

You can get lemon-flavoured Nestea in bottles here.  I've seen it in corner shops in the city centre (I'm in Newcastle) and the cafe' in BHS, of all places!

Yeah, we've bought iced tea from Sainsbury's (and corner shops) for years - lemon, mango and peach flavours.

Also, Lidl does a really good lemon flavoured iced tea in a Tetrapak.

There used to be a really nice bottled Nestea which was 'red berries' flavour... god it was lovely, especially with vanilla vodka.   Havent seen that in over a year.  :(   But we still get lemon or peach bottled Lipton in all our supermarkets here.

I think iced tea is on an upswing here, and we can expect to see more of it coming. Hopefully. ;)

I've been drinking Lipton lemon Iced Tea for years.  It is a little more sweet than I'd prefer, but I drink it most days in the summer.

Iced tea wasn't popular or at all common where I lived in the US. It was iced coffee all the way! I remember once going out for a meal with a friend who brought along his southern cousin who was visiting. In the restaurant, the cousin asked for an iced tea and was brought a Long Island Iced Tea!  ;D

My N. Irish officemate had never heard of iced tea!  :o

I saw that too! My parents were here visiting and couldn't understand why I got such a kick out of an iced tea recipe!  ;D

I'm not a big iced tea fan, so I don't miss it. I prefer mine hot.  ;)

M&S did an (alcoholic) "iced tea spritzer" a few summers ago.  It was gorgeous.  Haven't seen it last summer or this one, sadly.  Was great at BBQ's.

Me too! But I think that's mostly due to the fact that it's not that easy to find unsweetened iced tea. I hate the sugary tasting stuff!

So I do. On the rare occasions I wanted it in the US, I always preferred to make my own rather than buying the sugary, flavoured stuff from shops. But I'm still an iced coffee girl. Mmmmmm..... it's one of my very favourite things!
