Hiya

Bumping this...

What level of detail in a budget is required for the Spousal Visa Application form?

as an example, within my own financial tracking including budgets, I go to the level of tracking things like haircuts, lunch, individual items bought etc etc..  I know of others who take it even further and have catagories for 'Mars Bar and Cheese & onion Crisps' and 'Books - fiction, Books novels and magazines' etc etc!!
Others go 'hi level' and have a budget catagory of 'Spending money' or 'Miscellaneous'

Overall, it sounds like the 'higher' level catagories are required - 'Household Expenditure' for example will include things like buildings and/or contents Insurances, council tax, all utility bills, Maintenence items and 'Income' for instance would include paid employment, part time job, shares income, small business income etc.

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough UK!
Cheers

My budgetting is seperated into the following categories:
Rent/Utilities
Food
Eating Out
Fun
Appearance
House
Phone/Internet
Travel
Misc.

I'm going to be as detailed as possible, but I doubt I'll get down to things like "snacks" ^_~

We are going to be living in DF's mom's house, which she owns, so do we explain this then exclude expenses such as "council tax," "rent," "tv license," etc? Would it be okay to list these and just put 0.00 GBP next to them?

Just out of curiosity as well: we will most likely be getting DF's mother's house switched to our ownership eventually (within a few months of me moving there), as she lives permanently with her partner now and has offered the house to us first. This won't look suspicious for future visa apps (i.e. ILR) will it, since she will have officially handed over ownership to us? [I'm not sure what time span this will take. Her mortgage on the house is almost paid off, but I'm not sure how close to being paid off it actually is, so I'm not sure if she's going to wait until she's finished paying it off or what.] (I've never owned property--only rented--so I don't know how it all works!)

Maybe just put N/A next to it?

Well, you need to be reported to the Council as tax would go up since you are another adult living in the household.  So maybe you should put that she pays them as opposed to 0.00 which makes it seem like you won't be paying them.

Maybe make a separate section for things your mil will pay for?

re: council tax.  if your mil is living in the house solo- she's getting a 25% discount on the council tax.  if your mil isn't living int he house solo- she's not getting this 25% single-person's discount.

i don't know of any council tax where you have to declare the number of people living in the house (unless you're applying for single-person's discount which is 25% off)

That must have been it.  I think I was thinking of the student Council Tax discount and getting it muddle with the one person discount.  A friend moved into our flat in Scotland and we lost the student discount, then my dh had to declare me on the council tax when I moved in.

Yeah, the accommodation situation will be explained in the cover letter, and probably again in the "finances/accommodation" section of my application, so I wonder if putting something to the effect of "N/A [paid for by *insert her name here*]" would be acceptable.

I am very sure that the council has to be notified of all people living in a property, even though the tax payable doesn't increase if more than two people live there.

I am sure it won't matter, I swear they didn't look at 99.99% of the stuff we had, but at least if you put her name down you are acknowledging that someone is going to be paying it.  Like you don't think that no one needs to pay the tv tax or whatever.  As if you could ignore the bills anyway.   ;)

more curious than anything- but where have you gotten that info from?  when i applied for council tax at my latest place- i rang- signed up- never asked how many people or either names.

Every time I have moved house a form has come asking to list the people in the house.

Aww, you mean we can't just leave them on the counter and hope that the bill fairy pays them for us?  ;D
