I just found this website that rates some of the products at Lidl and Aldi (and ASDA).

My husband and I genuinely believe that the same company makes food for Tesco, Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer, but just package it differently and up the prices. ASDA, in my experience and for what it's worth, never seems to be out of stock because it's American-run, unlike Tesco or Sainsbury's. I've been in both stores on nights when they looked as if they'd been looted.  :)

Ugh. Asda is awful and I can't tell you how many times I've been there when they've been out of things. Just my experience, though.

Thanks for that link, Carrie. I've been thinking about hitting Lidl again - I got jam there last time that was really good and we're almost out!

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I think you are right about Tesco & Sainsburys with a lot of their own brand products, they do seem to be the same.

Not my ASDA!!  ;D

I think all stores can have empty shelves, depending on what time you do your shopping.

Great site, Carrie!!! Who knew I was supposed to be saying Lee-Dell!?!  ;D

TV adverts remind ya all the time though I still say Liddle. It took the wee boy ages to realise daddy wasn't meaning it was a wee shop. Liddle = little, kinda like wadder = water.

It says Lee-Dell on the website Carrie linked to, but I don't think I've ever heard it any way other than plain on 'Liddle'! Are there adverts? If so, I've missed them.

Anyway, I'm going to start saying Lee-duhl now and see what sort of funny looks I get from people!  ;D

The adverts seem to be on STV quite often.

I dare you to keep a straight face the first time you use Lee-duhl in a conversation.  ;D

I always say Lee-duhl... always have done, and always with a straight face!   I guess it made sense to me because i've studied German, and that Lee-duhl looks like the most natural German pronunciation.

I had heard it pronounced Liddle long before I had ever been in one or knew they were German so the pronouciation just stuck. My German teacher from school would probably shout, deeply and loudly, Gott in Himmel, du bist ein kartoffelkopf and thump me upside my heid.

Thats funny, my local Asda is always stocked up to the hilt! Even when you go in the evening they have fresh chickens, salad....everything. Asda may be American Owned, but they aren't necessarily American run. I know our local Asda Store manager is as Manc as they come....
