I went to Lidl yesterday and bought these really nice large chocolate Santas for only £1.50 each. Great stocking stuffers. :)

Got this week's weekly 'specials' e-mail...lots and lots of Christmas decorations!!!  Also some calendars and diaries/date books as well.  Very exciting, as we've got very little money to spend but lots of desire to decorate for Christmas!!

These offers start next Thursday (29/11).  Happy Christmas shopping! :)

Another thing about Lidl (maybe someone's already said it?)... their avocados are always ripe.   You know how, in other supermarkets, you buy the avocados but you have to leave them in the window for 3-4 days before you can even think about eating them?   Everytime i have seen avocados in Lidl, they are soft and ripe and ready to eat that same day.

Just bought some this morning for guacamole tonight!  :)

Oooh, I hate that! Stick them next to your bananas, they will ripen quicker. When you need your guac, ya need your guac!! ;)

my Lidl stocks rye bread!  But i guess what counts as 'decent' varies between individuals.  I dont eat bread, so have no idea what this is like, but it looks exactly like the stuff you get at breakfast in Germany.

They have roasted pumpkin seeds in with the Greek section this week!  Halva and all sorts of yummy goodies to be had as well.

Also some pretty cool puzzles for old and young alike.

Yes, they have a form of rye bread, but it's not what I had in mind.  Sorry, the word 'decent' wasn't very appropriate there.

I'm looking for normal Jewish rye or German pumperknickel bread like you can find in US grocery stores.  It's not easy here, since the only rye bread I can find is the super-dense, partially moist stuff that they sell in Lidl.  I know this is a traditional rye bread in Germany (we had every morning for breakfast in my hostel in Berlin), but I'm looking for something different.

Just returned from Lidl and wanted to pass on a couple of things that might interest some of you...

Ice cream sandwiches -- the kind with the soft black/chocolate cookie-type 'bread' bit on the outside, rather than the traditional British wafer type.  They have these in Lidl, and i can confirm they are delicious!   They're called Gelatelli Biscuit Slices.

Also... this might be a regional thing, but growing up in Southern California, we drank these canned drinks called Kern's fruit nectars... they were juice, but it had loads of pulp in, so was really thick.   Lidl has 1 litre tetrapaks of something called Solevita Nectar & Pulp in both peach and pear.  I bought both, but have only tried the peach one so far and it is really, really nice.   Very similar to the Kerns stuff from my childhood.  And would be lovely mixed with vodka, i reckon!

Love Lidl...reminds me of being a kid in Germany...Their bottled water is really cheap and you can buy it in whopping sized bottles! They also do these really nice lemon puff biscuits that I can never find anywhere else...

I do remember when our local store opened about 8 years ago..a warning went out in the local press about their frankfurters in a can exploding in peoples faces as they opened them! Not Lidls fault..it was down to the manufacturer..but I had never heard of such a thing happening...I am sure it was very distressing for people who had bought the exploading product....but I did have a good chuckle about it  ;)  I must be twisted  ;D

I love you.   :-*  I shall scour the three Lidls available to me - fingers crossed!

I grew up drinking peach nectar and pear nectar, too, and I love the stuff from Lidl.  It is like a little sip of childhood.
