Shocker, i think i'm the only person who hates LIDL...the one near me might be a bad example but it's simply awful...nothing against polish people whatsoever but everything in my LIDL seems to be made in Poland - the potato croquettes were bizarre!

That is not the spirit, Carol!  Ignore the potato croquettes and most of the other dodgy brand packaged food (except the chocolate and pasta, which are peerless), and use this thread for tips on the real gems you can find at Lidl.  I am still reeling at the 14p corn and 17p avocadoes.

As for Polish goods, some are fantastic (jam, sausages, pickles), others are poor.

If you are used to buying everything under one roof, and you want to do that, Lidl is not for you.  If you are an advernturous and frugal foodie looking for bargain treats, it is a treasure trove.

I will definately open my mind and give my LIDL another go...who knows, you may have a convert on your hands! ;D

Cranberry sauce warning --- it's not!  I knew that when I bought it - you can tell, just looking through the clear glass jar that those little red berries are not cranberries.  But I wanted to 1) taste it and 2) get the jar home to Babelfish.

It is sort of a sweet-tart sauce, more sweet than tart.  And Babelfish has informed me that those are red bilberries, which I believe are ligonberries.  Seems about right, although I've only had lingonberry sauce once before, so I'm really going on a weak memory.  It would make a nice sauce for a rich meat (like duck or dark turkey) or for pork.  It's not cranberry sauce though.

I always get a bag of snacky cracky, they're so more-ish. Last time I got the bbq ribs for DH he said they were really good.

I forgot to mention the very Ruffles-like ridged crisps.  They're called Crusty Croc, but don't be put off by that!  They are amazingly close to Ruffles, and are less than £1 a bag.  I always get about 2-3 bags when we go.

sunflower seeds?!  Now I have to go back.  I used to go to LIDL all the the time since it is the only grocery store in easy carrying distance before I got the car.  I still go sometimes, not for my regular shopping trip, but for items I'm craving.

You've covered all my favorites (the chocolate prices can't be beat!!), but one hasn't been mentioned.  There's a muesli there that I just crave.  It comes in a small bag with blue on it.  I really don't like most of their cereals, but I haven't found a muesli like this.  It isn't all oats like so many of the others.  It is chock full of whole almonds, banana chips, dried fruit, pumpkin seeds, lots of great stuff.  It really is mostly fruit and nuts and oh so yummy!

You definitely learn to pick and choose at that store, but what is good is oh so good and the rest you can leave at the door.

I know the muesli you're on about. It is pretty good. I like their Maple and Pecan cereal too. Not sure how healthy it is but it tastes good.

Someone mentioned about the Route66 peanutbutter and that they didn't try it because it was so pale. I had said it was good. It still is but I did think, the other day when I was in and saw the pb, I thought, ew yuk. Someone else in this house had bought the first jar and it was in the cupboard so I tried it and was pretty good.

I've been using Lidl since they first came over the sea. I grew up in Germany as a teen and it was fantastic to have so many 'contintenal' foods at bargain prices.  But why don't they carry Magi sauce?!

Now only if we can get the natives to bag their grocies correctly, ie you are suppose to pile them all back in the trolley and pack them over on the ledge after the tills. Is that so hard to understand? Why do you think there is no 'landing' zone for the food after it passes the till?
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.
