Pet-friendly neighborhoods
« on: August 10, 2007, 01:56:36 AM »
Can anyone tell me if there are any pet-friendly neighborhoods and if so, where they are?  I am interested in all areas of the UK.  I would like to move somewhere that I can stroll along with my dogs on a Saturday morning and hit the local cafe and sit outside and also be able to take them out walking every morning and night and to parks, etc.  I honestly can't remember having seen much of this while visiting but then again, I wasn't really hanging out in any one neighborhood and mostly going from attraction to attraction or doing a road trip about Scotland.

As a side ? - Is there a way to search within specific forums instead of the search giving you results from the entire UK-Y forum list?  I'm finding it hard to look for certain things.

You can do that pretty much anywhere . . . most cafe's won't let your dog inside (although most pubs will) so you will have to sit outside.

All areas have parks, and yes you can walk your dog there so long as you clean up. The only reason that you couldn't walk along at night with your dog would be if you were living in a really nasty area - and then having a Great Dane or suchlike would be an advantage.

BUT don't let your dog bark at night - you will quickly become unpopular with the neighbours, and DON'T let your dog off the lead on farmland - the farmer has the legal right to shoot it if you do.

Peterborough is quite friendly, my dog has made several friends with local dogs of all sorts and there is a field across the way where we often see others playing fetch.  The pathways are full of receptacles for dog waste, and most cafes and pubs, even castles have communal dog water dishes so while you get a beverage your dog can get a drink.  It is more friendly for pooches here than in the states imho.
