Great travel bargains!
« on: August 15, 2007, 10:26:34 AM »
www.hotwire.com
Let me sing it's praises! I got a 4 star hotel room at the Chicago O'hare Westin for $86 regular priced at $211. I just booked a rental car for one day at O'hare for $14.95! The thing is you don't know exactly what hotel you'll get or what rental car agency but if you put in your search criteria such as 4 star hotel in a particular area you should get what you want. I haven't used to to book a flight yet but I'll sure try!

I like hotwire as well.  I've also used Priceline for hotel rooms with some really great results.  Never used either for flights, though...I understand you can get some great deals but when I'm travelling w/the kiddos I like a little more control over flight times, connections, etc...
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

True. It's not for every situation, and it's not always the cheapest.

I've never had the flexibility time-wise to use priceline or hotwire for flights, but I've used both for hotels and had great experiences.

This is also a great site for figuring out which hotel is which!

Don't tell immigration you are broke when you arrive in the UK or they will put you on the next plane leaving. I don't think they make you prove you have enough funds to pay for your visit just don't volunteer any negative information.
Hopefully you were exaggerating.

I booked a hertz rental car for just $14.95 a day on Hotwire. When I got to O'hare they upgraded me to a new Mustang convertable for just $8!! The kids were lovin' it!

Pebbles, do you remember how much the insurance was per day?

I ask because since we don't have any car insurance in the states we will need to buy it for the rental. I just checked out Hotwire's rates and they are very good but don't give you insurance, it says to buy it at the counter. I wonder how much extra the insurance will add to the bill? Any idea?

Sorry but this was the first time I didn't get the insurance since we were only going to be driving maybe ten miles in total I took a chance.
I think it's about $22 a day if I remember correctly. You can always give the agency a ring and ask them..

Thanks Pebbles...even at $22 a day I think it will be cheaper to go with them rather than booking from over here. I will call and check it out.
