a pot from the grocery store doesn't cost that much more than a packet, and they definitely keep longer if they have roots!  ;)

yep, after I killed off the basil plant I grew from seeds, I bought a plant at the store. It was fantastic until I went away for a long weekend and came back to dried basil still on the stems. Oops, it was waaaaay beyond saving. I just bought another one.  ;D

We have a small kitchen herb garden in our back garden.  We have a bay (leaf) tree/plant, rosemary, marjoram & oregano all going gangbusters.  Somehow we managed to kill off our mint (was growing wild back there when we moved in!) & I don't know how that happened because I thought you couldn't kill mint.  We have a small thyme plant that's still trying to thrive.  Everytime we plant basil, parsley & other very tender herbs -- the slugs always end up finishing them off.
