Yes, I find British cakes drier than what I'd expect a cake to be, generally. I still prefer ice cream over cream.
I like cold custard (just by itself) but not a fan of warm custard. Steve is just the opposite. I'm not a big fan of the traditional warm & stodgy British desserts though (served with warm custard) - spotted dick, jam roly-poly, etc... Bleurgh!

On occasion, I've liked a sticky toffee pudding or treacle something or other.
I like cream over something like peach cobbler -- mmmmmm! Cos that's how my grandma used to serve it. Maybe over a berry pie would be nice too, but I still prefer ice cream I think.
And yeah - you definitely want some gravy with that toad in the hole. I think that might be what Steve is making us tonight!
