Honeycomb
« on: August 21, 2007, 02:04:26 PM »
I was at M&S yesterda picking up some things and I came across a jar of honey with a piece of comb in it. I bought it because it looked cool and I was making lavender honey cupcakes and I didn't really like the honey I had at home.  I had never bought honeycomb before, or eaten any for that matter.  My husband says you are not supposed to eat the comb structure because that just wax, just suck the honey out; wikipedia says it is edible.  Do YOU eat the comb?  I had some before my husband came home and told me that and I'm still alive!

It tasted fine.  All I could taste was the honey.

I don't think you eat the honeycomb, I think you can chew on it and suck out the honey, but I think the wax is inedible. I wonder if you can digest it...

Let us know!

I think you are supposed to chew it and spit it out. But I don't think it's gonna kill ya! Wouldn't recommend eating a load of it in one sitting though!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

No, but I thought the visual was a bit much.

that's kind of what we did as kids when eating honeycomb.  we would chew it like gum, and then eventually spit it out.

a lot of honeycomb is manufactured and therefore a bit 'tough.'

I've had honeycomb that melts in your mouth just like the honey once you spread it on toast. Yum, that's the best kind.

We used to suck on them and spit the harder bits out.  But this was natural beeswax comb from friends who had a honey farm.  Now I can't look at a beeswax candle without thinking about honeycombs.  It was yummy stuff, and we did end up consuming some wax (with no apparent ill effects).
