Going out for breakfast/brunch
« on: August 27, 2007, 05:59:39 PM »

I thought I would post this since one of the things that I missed most when I moved over was the lack of choice for going out to breakfast.

We went to Tootsies last weekend for lunch and found that they have recently started a breakfast/brunch menu. We went there this morning and it was nice.

Thought I would post in case there is one in your area. That said, I see by the map that most are in London and I am sure that Londoners have much more choice than the rest of us. Still, worth a post for the other areas.  :)

I LOVE going out to Breakfast/brunch.  I was just in Reading and saw the Tootsie's there. (I'd not heard of it before)  But Mindy wanted to go to Chili's :P  Next time We have to check it out, thank you!

A Giraffe just opened in Guildford and we went last week.  All five of us had the pancakes, yummy.

I love brunch! Jules, my favorite place is the Hull Street Blues Cafe in Baltimore. You'll have to check it out when you go back, if you haven't been already. They have a buffet and they'll bring french toast and pancakes to your table. That's where I first had peanut butter pancakes and Irish creme french toast! Yum!!!

OMG, I can't wait until I can go home to check that out!!!

We're getting a Giraffe here in Exeter. They open next month so I'm really excited about that.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

It's excellent. A little pricey, but it's nice to do every now and then. You can book a table there too which is nice.

No Tootsie's anywhere near me, but apparently there's a Dexter's in Castleford!   Might have to check it out some day...they've got french toast!  ;D

Stacey, I wish I had known that you and Mindy were in Reading...I would have loved to have met up with you guys!  :)

Bmore_2_UK, thanks! We will definitely check it out!  When we go back we love to go to Paper Moon Cafe or the Double T! My husband loves the constant top up of coffee.  ;)

Of course we always have to hit Sam's Bagels on Cold Spring. The last time we were there....2nd day, the owner spotted us as "non locals" and went OTT on the best bagel ever! (The 1st day was great as well).  :)

I'm so sorry for that, it was so last minute.  We almost didn't come and then Mindy dragged me to the station.  So glad we did, I really liked Reading.  We will be back soon, and I'll let you know then!  We will have to go to Tootsies.

No apologies Stacey, just bummed to know that you guys were here! Of course, let me know when you venture back. We are here for a few more months.

On the flip side, I think we need to make our way to a London get together!  ;)

Yes! Open 24hrs as well. Can't beat that!  ;D

We always arrive in the late afternoon and are in bed pretty early but the next morning due to the UK body clock, we are up and showered by 5am....its great that there is a place to go to downtown!  :)

My friends swear by the Blue Moon Cafe in Fell's Point. I've never been because it's always packed to the gills when I've tried to go (and you can't book ahead), but it's supposed to be amazing.

I just looked over the menu and it boggles my mind when I looked at the prices.
I had breakfast out this morning. Scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage, pankcakes with strawberries and hot chocolate. Cost $2.40 or 1.20 pounds.
To be realistic I think I should compare London prices with New Yorks prices.

We go out to Giraffe's for breakfast/brunch from time to time, but I wish they had a BIT more selection on the breakfast menu.  The pancakes are to die for (minus the bananas for me) and they've got other good hot options, but nothing's overly spectacular.  Some omelettes or other creative dishes would not go amiss.

Delicious coffee, though!  Giraffe's is affordable, as we always eat for under £20 for 2 (including nice coffee/juice drinks).  I definitely want to try Tootsies in the future!!
