Yogurt Recommendations
« on: August 31, 2007, 03:23:52 PM »
I know yogurt is a healthy food and I tried several times in the US to teach my palate to eat yogurt, but ugh.... The fact that there is an aisle devoted to yogurt in the grocery stores tells me that I should try again. I don't remember the kind I tried in the US; it had some fruit but was still nauseating. I like sour cream on a baked potato with butter and I like pudding so surely there is a brand or combination of yogurt and cereal that will be yummy.
The aisle is long and full of products...
All you yogurt lovers out there, any advice?

Yeo Valley is a good brand or Total Greek style yoghurt is very nice too - very creamy.  I don't usually buy the kind that has fruit or cereal added to it though, I prefer to add my own, if anything.

If you want cereal in it, I'd recommend buying Total Greek style yogurt (as Britwife recommended) and adding some honey and granola yourself. Strawberries too, if you're so inclined! It's lovely!

And a second vote for Yeo Valley here. Also Rachel's Organic has some scrumptious flavours. Rachel's Coconut Greek yogurt is to die for!

My fav is Muller vanilla..only prob for veg/vegans, it has gelatin in it (why, don't know!).  But it tastes wonderful, like a dessert.  I love that with any granola.

Some manufacturers put gelatin in to thicken it ... I imagine it's easier/cheaper than thickening it by straining the whey out.

I like the...can't remember how it's spelled...Oeken?  Oetken?  brand yogurt.

I eat mostly M&S organic yogurt. It's fruit flavored, but much much nicer than most US fruit yogurts. Rhubarb is my fave, but I'm a crazy rhubarb freak.  ;) I love that Greek yogurt is so much easier to find here and cheaper as well, as I like cooking with it.

No, I just got back from the store - it's Onken.  Some gals at work started calling it Oinkin' Yogurt because they liked it so much.

Total Greek is my favorite for savory things. Yeo Valley vanilla is really nice with berries in it.

My husband loves Total Greek!!  He's been eating the the 500g tubs for lunch and the 150g tubs as snacks.  I like yogurt, but not that much  ;D

So good.  They now make 2% which is better then the 0% fat but less fat then the regular one and tastes just as good.  I put honey in mine, sometimes with banana.  Yum.

I remember Tesco had a really good yogurt.  I think the lemon was my favorite.

Onken has aspartame in some of their varieties. Blech.

I'm not a huge yogurt fan, in particular I loathe the low fat diet-y ones. I will eat the full fat ones and the natural low fat ones now and then. I find they all leave a funny 'ick' feeling in the back of my throat.

My son and DH, however, eat eat least one a day!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
