Sesame Street
« on: September 06, 2007, 07:18:58 PM »
Like a lot of people here, I grew up with Sesame Street. I would like my daughter to watch it and learn from it as I did. Does it even exist anymore?
Anyone know if its on DVD or anything like that? or maybe on a channel here?

I love sesame street! I end up watching it alot at work. I dont know about in the UK, but it's still very popular in the USA. There are tons of DVDs of it. If you get on youtube you can find lots of clips, especially the older stuff.  :)

They have Play With Me Sesame here but it's not as much fun as the Sesame Street we grew up with. I think I may have some Sesame Street VHS tapes somewhere but who watches VHS anymore?

There are a whole bunch of Sesame Street DVDs on amazon (both .com and .co.uk), but they all seem to have region 1 encoding.

DH said they used to show it daily.  He knew what I was talking about when I told him I once met Maria.   ;D  He just looked it up, though, and apparently they stopped showing it in the early 2000's.

What you want to get is the Old School Sesame Street dvd. It's got episodes from the 70s and still goes over great with the kids. My only complaint is that it's too short. I believe it's only region 1 but if you have a multi region player it's well worth it.

And it looks like Vol 2 is coming out soon - yay!

i have a multi-regional dvd player, so those dvds will be great.

The new episodes dont even compare to the ones they have now. They were classic!

When I was growing up here in the UK (mid-1980's to mid-1990's), Sesame Street was shown daily at around noon on Channel 4, but I don't think it's been on for a while now. According to the Sesame Street Wikipedia page, it was aired in the UK until the early 2000's, but you can probably get hold of some DVD's from Amazon or ebay.

I'd also recommend getting the Schoolhouse Rock DVDs (especially since grammar doesn't seem to be a strong subject here).

My friend's 9 month old was mesmerized, even if he doesn't know what he's watching yet!
I just gave her my set (region 1).

Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up words and phrases and clauses.
Conjunction Junction, how's that function?
I got three favorite cars
That get most of my job done.
Conjunction Junction, what's their function?
I got "and", "but", and "or",
They'll get you pretty far.

Balmerhon,

The conjunction song came from "The Electric Company," not "Sesame Street" (you must have watched "The Electric Company" to know those lyrics). I was a fan of both shows. In fact, my two cats are named Bert and Ernie.  :)

Are you sure about that? I remember it on Saturday morning TV. Maybe it originated from "The Electric Company" but it seemed to be during breaks in between shows. The conjunction song, the piece of cheese guy, "oh to be a bill, on Capitol Hill" guy, etc.

All a bit foggy but wasn't that School House Rock on ABC?

I remember it during Rocky and Bullwinkle and other Saturday morning cartoons! I've never seen The Electric Company, so Schoolhouse Rock must have appeared elsewhere as well.
