I don't know where you're from lissy, but in Pennsylvania there are local foods that you can't even find outside of the greater Philadelphia area like Tastycakes.

I found this hand page of links to other US regional foods--looks like much of it won't travel well!  :)

I grew up eating Tastycakes in Florida...

I guess they have a bigger distribution area than I realized!  I do beleive they are a Philadelphia company.  My cousin in Chicago used to have me bring them to her when I came to visit.

They are regional, but they send out supplies to areas with interest.  So an area that has a heavy number of former Pennsylvanians would get some.  Like Ski soda from Kentucky, the only other place you can get it (at least when I was there) was in Chicago.

Also, we have a local soda company in my hometown and the only other place I saw the soda, outside of my area, was in Bermuda.  Very weird.

perhaps the distribution has expanded over the years, but i remember bringing tastycakes down to a far-flung cousin in new orleans about 10 years ago.

we had Tastycakes in New York too, I think. Or am I thinking of Toaster cakes?

Seems ironic, but English muffins  ;)
Red licorice (I was absolutely craving Nibs not too long ago)
pastina (I always bring back a few boxes)

Less transportable:
pizza, pizza, pizza!
mexican food
lobster (I know you can find it here, but I'm not willing to part with my arm and my leg!  ;D)

English muffins??  I know I'm going to regret this - why???  The "muffins" here are just fine - and before anyone else starts, no, crumpets do not = muffins.  They are something different altogether.

I like English muffins - Thomas's is the brand I remember?  Do they have English muffins in the UK?  By that I mean the US version of 'English muffins'.

Yes.  They're not "exactly" like Thomas's - but pretty close to a store-type brand, in my opinion.  They're simply called "muffins".

While I do like muffins available here, I have yet to find the Thomas' English Muffin equivalent.  I'm not knocking England in general or even specifically - I just like the English muffins that are available in the US and will have them when I'm visiting.  No need to get upset!
