Atonement

Who's going?  I asked Steve if he wants to go or wait for it on DVD -- he doesn't care, either is fine!  On one hand, I'd like to see it because I liked the book, but then again, I really don't like Keira Knightley - bleh! :P

I'm so torn. Atonement is probably one of my favourite books ever. But ... Keira Knightley (aka Frying Pan Face) is one of my least favourite actresses ever. Either way, it'll probably be a good six months until it comes to our cinema, so I don't have to make a decision anytime soon. But why couldn't they have cast someone else?!?! Anyone else?!?!

We saw it last week and it's very good, but if you're not a Keira Knightley fan, you'll be disappointed in the casting.  While I enjoyed the movie, I was distracted by her weird mouth/speech "i'm frightfully posh" impediment the entire time.  And the girl CANNOT fill out an evening gown!   ::)

I agree, I find her really, really irritating.  She's always playing hte same type of role - as a brat.  And for some reason, although he's more talented, I find James McAvoy annoying, too.

I also found the book annoying as well.

So I'll be giving this a miss.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised, but Keira Knightley's jaw was a bit distracting.  Though I seem to always be distracted by the things actors and actresses do with their jaws while acting, like Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter films and the way he kind of grinds his teeth/makes chewing movements when he's not speaking....

I liked James McAvoy in this, though, and I haven't liked him in anything else I've seen him in .

I didn't like the book much.  I found it irritating.  :-\\\\  So I guess I won't see the movie.

Modified to add I guess I should have just said ditto to expat_in_scotland's post.

I want to see it!! I don't mind Keira Knightly but then the only thing I remember seeing her in is Bend it Like Beckham.  But we'll probably wait for the DVD.

I'm thinking we may go this route, because Keira Knightley annoys me to no end (I call her 'troll face' & no kidding, Lola, about her not filling out a dress -- she has a prepubescent boy figure ::), not a woman's figure).  Also, I'm having trouble justifying spending the money to be annoyed like that at the cinema.  Still it might be nice to see at the cinema for the big screen - the settings, costumes, etc.

Who would you have cast for Cecilia instead?

I'll have to think about that, too!

Oh, I was going to suggest someone like Romola Garai, but I just looked her up and she's playing Briony in Atonement!! But isn't she older than Keira Knightley??  ???

Did anyone see Keira Knightley on Jonathan Ross last night? In addition to having the body of a prepubescent boy and the face of a frying pan, the girl is totally without a sense of humour. Ugh. I mean, she laughed at his jokes, but there was no spark of wit there at all.

I wouldn't say she was stupid, no. Just humourless. Which, in my book, is worse!  ;)

I was trying to think of who I would cast & I'm struggling, but I don't know many British actresses.  Then again, I don't suppose it needs to be limited to someone British. ???

Oh you guys are mean!  :D  I really don't think she is that bad. I've seen her interviewed recently a couple of times and she seemed quite down to earth to me. OK she is a stick insect but so are a lot of Hollywood types.
