If you are near London Bridge then i'd stick to the Stanstead Express.  But you said in a previous post that you'd be in West London....

I'll be leaving from work at London/Tower Bridge area, then returning to West London.

Walking from Shad Thames to Liverpool St might be a trek with luggage?  Well, it would be for me at least!  I always take the bus to Liverpool St then usually take Terravision or Stansted Express.

when was this? Luton is on a main train line and I just had a look and there is at least one an hour in the wee morning hours during the week. I suppose to cater to business travellers. You are SOL on a weekend though! This might change if the airport continues to grow and once the works complete.

Luton and Luton Airport Parkway (where the free shuttle operates from) are 2 different stations.  I actually did just look & there's trains until 2am!  I stand corrected...we only took the bus b/c SO assured me there was nothing past 11pm.  No idea what time the free shuttle operates to, though, as I don't recall seeing it once the whole time we were in the bus area for over an hour.  Oh well!  Don't trust me, check the website! :P  They're still only once an hour past 10pm & I know that Thameslink/FCC is very unreliable with trains!  YMMV...

I don't know, I think it will take a good 20 minutes to half hour though, just to warn you.  DH said he thought so too.  Just a backpack is good, though.

I took a half day off work, so I'll have time for a leisurely stroll before getting on the Express :)
Thought it'd be a nice way to see that part of the city in my last few days!

Oh okay, that's good.  I seem to NEVER have the chance to leisurely get to the airport - I am always in a big rush.   :P  But yes, you will have a nice walk then!  I'd say from Tower Bridge allow yourself a half hour to be safe.

and make sure you have plenty of time to get through security hell at Stansted. It is the worst in my experience! Give me Heathrow any day!!  :P

Late piping in here, but just wanted to add my two cents. I've flown out of all five London airports and Luton is on the BOTTOM of my list. Besides the transportation problems already mentioned below, the staff seem to be inexperienced, rude and surly. I'd take the hell of Heathrow anyday over Luton!

A nice feature of Stanstead, besides the train station downstairs, is the fact that every airport bar has large plasma screens with the departure information. You never have to leave your bar stool to check the boards!

My favorite airport, hands down, is London City Airport (LCY). It's about 25 minutes from my flat by Tube & DLR!  Unfortunately they only fly to a few close destinations in Western Europe; the runway is so small that only turboprop and small commuter jets can land there.  I've flown to Amsterdam (£15 quid on VLM!) and Frankfurt from LCY.

Completely agree.  I LOOOOOOVE LCY.  Only 20 minutes from my apartment by DLR.
