Should I be concerned that my Turkey breast still feels frozen when I poke at it? I mean, part of it is clearly thawed, but I have to make it in about 12 hours....should I take it out of the fridge to finish thawing?

I have no idea... mine is just a crown and has been in the fridge since Saturday and is very squishy when I poke it.  If yours is still hard when you poke it, maybe you should thaw it in the sink overnight.   ???  Don't trust my advice, though.... Terri there has made 4 pumpkin pies and I have tried to make my own pastry for one pie 5 times tonight.... finally gave up and bought the pre-made stuff and it rolled right the first time.   >:(  How is your deep dish pumpkin pie?   ;D  You are such a sport, I was crying like a baby over not finding a pie tin!  I am pretty emotional these days, though...

If you listen very carefully, you can hear the sound of two people about a mile West of you drooling.....

It looks good, so I hope it tastes good!  It squishes now when I poke it, so I'll take that as a good sign.  I'll check ti again before bed and hope for the best.

I was frustrated because Tim had gone into Tesco without me,and I know if I had gone I'd have found exactly what I needed!

Our Menu
Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole
Brussel Sprouts
Rolls
Cranberry Sauce
Ambrosia Salad
No Bake Cheese Cake with Apples & Carmel Sauce
Pumpkin Pie
Candied Yams!  ;D ya! we went and got them just now.

Appetizer
Deviled Eggs

It's so interesting seeing how differently people eat. On another forum they have this same thing and people are eating mac & cheese and chocolate cake and coleslaw and all these different things. I couldn't ever add something new to the menu...it's generally the same every year...

I always thought people ate about the same things...lol  :P

Happy Thanksgiving, you lot in the UK!  from the New World.
Had to get a 7 lb chicken because all the turkeys were humongous and cost around $50.  Got me free pie from work (pumpkin this year).  Up at the crack of dawn this AM to make the cranberry-orange relish, cornbread and apple crumble pie (looks abit feeble but never mind)  Going to DS's girl friend's folks for dessert so got some wine and chocs. to take (couldn't find any After Eights!)
The two turkeys at our local vet's were laying low the other day but they've survived several Turkey Days already.

I'm awake, I'm awake.

Thanks to cooking the potatoes in the crock pot overnight, they just need to be mashed and then kept warm until noon. woo!  Turkey goes in in about 45 minutes....so nervous about this!

Am bailing on Thanksgiving due to household economic turmoil and general depressed "can't be bothered"-ness.  But as soon as I get a job, that dinner is happening!  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, enjoy your turkeys and time with family.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

Can I HIGHLY suggest making your own cranberry sauce? I know some people sincerely do prefer the jellied stuff, but once you try doing your own I'd be willing to bet you won't go back!! My recipe is at home, but I'm happy to give it to anyone who's interested - it's dead easy: basically just cranberries, maple syrup, apple juice, and a few different spices simmered until the cranberries all pop. It's sooo good. The only problem is that it's better if it sits overnight and I can't do my Thanksgiving day shop until payday which, in some irritating twist of fate, is ON Thanksgiving day!  >:(

I agree that the shop-bought stuff can't hold a candle to real homemade cranberry sauce! I put thinly sliced orange rind and good few tablespoons of Grand Marnier in mine!
