vegas wedding certificate?
« on: September 23, 2007, 05:51:48 PM »
Hello:

I'm not really sure where to post this question, so if there's a better place on the message board, let me know! My fiance and i are getting married in Vegas in November, then heading to Chicago to apply for the spouse visa. Since I've never been married, I have absolutely no idea how long it takes to get a wedding certificate, which we'll need to apply for the visa. Obviously. Has anyone been married in Vegas lately? Or does anyone know how long I should factor in on waiting for this? I've checked the county website for Vegas weddings, but they just give a vague waiting period. Was wondering if anyone had any experience.

Thanks!

Man, you picked the right place for a quick and easy marriage  :)  The Huz and I eloped there two years ago.  I'll never forget the city bus we took to the County Clerk's office or the security guard who was our marital witness.  The memories....

This is the site you'll need to check out:  http://www.co.clark.nv.us/clerk/marriage_information.htm

His non-U.S. status is not an issue.  According to the website, Requirements for U.S. citizens and non U.S. citizens are the same.

Good luck and have fun.  We did.

Maybe one of my biggest regrets...not getting married in Vegas. Go for one of the Elvis impersonators...for me, PLEASE. Actually on our first trip there, DH pushed the lift button for the wedding chapel. I told him he had pushed the wrong button, but smiled and said who says. I probably shouldn't have laughed at him then, we might have been married sooner and been together sooner.

thanks for the replies!

neither my fiance nor I have been to Vegas, so we're both really looking forward to it. and, we're both not keen on the huge wedding and lots of onlookers--so Vegas really fits the wedding-with-ease requirements, or so I've read!

i feel like everything wedding/visa/moving back to the UK-related is finally starting to sort itself out. whew! now, if i could just convince the family not to buy wedding gifts... :)

If your family wants to give you wedding gifts maybe you could suggest Gift cards to places that you could use online for things in the UK & the States or items that you need or want while your still in the States.
