Warning to all those married in PA!!
« on: September 24, 2007, 08:57:54 PM »
My mom sent me this.  I wasn't sure it would affect anyone here but thought I would post it.  Since the UK government recognized a wedding by granting a visa, I assume there would be nothing to worry about.  I don't know if this will hold up in court or not, but I have no idea how this will affect anything.

Anyone who gets married in PA ought to know that they have to be married by someone who is ordained in a standing church and can't be done by someone ordained online...it's clearly written in so many places.  I would have done it that way otherwise just for the fun of it! (asked dad to get ordained)

Not just ordained in a standing church, but has to have a current congregation.  Where does that leave Pagans?   Besides which, the church in question is a standing church, with 501C3 status, a building, classes and has regular services.

On top of which nothing in my courthouse said anything about internet ordained ministers, that bill is still in committee hearings.  The people in my courthouse knew the people who married us, they have run a wedding business for over four years and no one said anything, although they do have a ministry in the area.

That's very strange.  Lots of ministers go on to perform occasional weddings once they've retired either for fun or as a way to supplement their incomes.  We were married by such a pastor, and he's marrying my brother and sister-in-law to be later on today (not in PA, though).

That is why the ruling by this judge is so out of left field, they are appealing the case to the district court.  Techincally, it is within the law, but clearly there are many people who did not read the law that way.  Since the state has no list of who is able to perform weddings, how can they even contest it?  Bah, it will be settled soon anyway.
