Cupcakes!

Cute article, plus we get the word "Cupcakistas" from it. ;)

“We neighbors get relief from cupcakistas who don’t realize Duncan Hines makes better-tasting cupcakes.”

;D  ;D  Oh Stella, your cupcake article just made my day!

I'm so out of the American loop I didn't even know there was such a thing as a cupcake shop?  And here I was blithely making cupcakes for my kid's school birthday parties each year without knowing I was some kind of health rebel, or making a retro political statement.  Happily nobody at their school has complained.  Although a few classmates politely informed me that they're "really" called fairycakes.

I looove cupcakes. I made some the other week.
Two years ago, I went to a party at a restaurant in downtown Brooklyn and the bakery section of the restaurant had these massive cupcakes for sale. I couldnt resist and bought about 4 to take back to the house. One cupcake could feed about 4 people.
This was at the beginning of the cupcake craze, unbeknownst to me. Apparently they were and are, in.
I say keep the cupcakes from harm. Yes they are empty calories but a cupcake every now and again cant be too bad. We have to treat ourselves. And they are not just for kids.
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

There are some bakeries in London called Hummingbird that have the best cupcakes, we go to the one in South Kensington and I love love love it - more like American cupcakes than the fairycakes you can be elsewhere!

I admit it...I am a Cupcakista.  I have been practicing my "swirls" on my signature cupcakes for months.  I think I finally have it down.  I bring them to work all the time, I do warn people how bad they are for you.  I use two whole (UK) blocks of butter in each batch of 24.  Scary, but delicious.   And I prefer the "gourmet" ones to Duncan Hines.  I am thinking of buying proper bakery boxes for when I make them.

See I told you...Cupcakista and damn proud.

Cupcakes rock. Fairy cakes, if they are dry like so many British cakes, are awful.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I LOVE cupcakes!  As some said before, fairycakes are dry!  I don't think they are the same thing.  My cupcakes are usually light, moist and airy and fairycakes are heavy and dry.

I guess I am a cupcakista too.

mmmmmmm!!

I haven't had fairycakes, so I don't know about the difference, but I do love cupcakes! That's one of my favorite things about being a teacher, is having cupcakes for birthdays.  ;D At my school, when kids have extra cupcakes they bring them around to teacher they had in years past and I love that I can get them even when it's not someone in my class!

I don't know what I'd do if my school banned cupcakes.  :o
