Printer problems
« on: September 27, 2007, 02:24:59 AM »
Before I chuck this printer out the window, I figure I'll ask here.
I just got a HP printer, but for some reason instead of taking one sheet at a time to print, the  printer takes the whole lot of paper at one time! its doing my head in!

Maybe you're overloading the paper tray? That's the only thing I can think of.  :-\\\\

As chary said, try putting less paper in the tray. Also, flick your fingers through the tops and particularly the bottoms of the sheets of paper before you put them in the tray. That will make it easier for the printer to separate them and print them one by one. I hope that helps.

Try cleaning the feed rollers as well.  There were some HP DeskJet models a few years ago which suffered from the rollers becoming rather "shiny" after a few years use, which also resulted in this problem.   I don't know if they're still available, but HP used to make a device with pads specially designed to roughen the rubber which you just pushed into place then ran a little program which kept the feed mechanism turning for a few minutes.  In the absence of that, some fine emery paper will do the trick.

I had this problem with the Lexmark I originally had here, and then we got a new one with dh's new computer and it's an HP with the same issue.  My dh claims that I can break a printer in under an hour.

I have found that not putting in too much paper can help, but we also think it depends on the kind of paper we use.  I bought some cheap paper that was on sale, and it's really thin.   We think that might be part of the problem.

Do you have a laser printer or an inkjet printer? Laser printers are less likely to have such problems (although I have an inkjet printer, which, on rare occasions, will print out blank pages while I'm trying to print out a manuscript to double-check editing). If you do have an inkjet printer, and continue to have the same problem, I would suggest that you get a laser printer (they're much more expensive, I know, but I think the price is worth handling the problem). I hope you can resolve this problem.

I'm only putting in about 20 sheets at a time. Then I tried 5 sheets, same thing happened.
I put my hand inside of it and messed with the rollers, so far its working back to normally!

Thanks all!

Now you're getting into the realms of complex technical solutions Dennis!   ;D

I had this same problem with an HP printer I had. I ended up calling the company and they sent me a cardboard insert thingy to put in the printer which eventually solved the problem. Maybe check their website.

That's odd. I always found HP printers to be the best in the business... I guess everyone has different experiences.

HP are good no doubt and they have their particular market segment well and truly wrapped up - however as I learnt not so long ago, in other area's HP don't even begin to measure up to the likes of Xerox

HP is not on my happy list these days. They have figured out how to region-code their INK CARTRIDGES. Yes, just like DVDs. Slimeballs.
