Married in the states, need to register it in UK?
« on: September 28, 2007, 07:11:11 PM »
Hello-
I tried to find the answer to my question in a link that was provided by MrsRichUK in another post, but I am still unclear.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/marriages/where-can-i-marry/can--i--register--my--overseas--marriage--in--england--and--wales.asp

My husband (a British citizen) and I (American citizen) were married in the USA 12th August 2007.

I am still here in the states and will be applying for a spousal visa in October to join him in London in January.

I will bring our marriage certificate which now has an official seal from the secretary of state.

is there anything that I need to do in London to register/acknowledge or legitimize our marriage?
or are we all set?

Thanks in advance-
Debs

Hooray! Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it!

Nothing worse than posting a topic and never getting a reply.
Well- there are far worse things, I suppose...

Thanks again- Debs  [smiley=heart.gif]

No problem, I was worried about that as well.  Try not to stress about your visa and such, just follow the instructions and you will be fine.

sending someone a PM and asking a plain, simple, direct question and never getting a reply is pretty bad too.
