Sorry - I've always only bought "cream of" tomato here and in the US.

I haven't.  :-[ I love regular tomato soup, but I am learning to love the "cream of" instead.

To be honest, I really only use Campbell's soup for cooking anyway.  Sometimes I do the cream of tomato with grilled cheese sandwiches, but mostly I use all the "cream of" soups in recipes.

M&S does a gorgeous non-creamy tomato-basil soup. Much better than condensed stuff, in my opinion. But then I never liked canned tomato soup.

M&S and Sainsbury's both do soups that aren't canned. You find them in the cooler sections.  They are not too bad. I love the Mushroom and Wild rice ones!

Thing is, I can deal with the cream of tomato - although I prefer it without (I used to like to add rice and stuff to it and eat it with a good grilled cheese sandwich - YUM!)

I can't deal with cream of chicken... :P  I was sick recently and just wanted something with clear broth!  Ended up eating beef consomme that was so salty...

PS: I actually make chicken soup quite often, but it's hard to anticipate when you're going to *need* it!  ;D

I do Baxter's Scotch Broth when I don't feel well - but my "sickie day" soup in the US was Beef & Barley, so it's closest to that.

But I know what you mean.  Sometimes I would give my eye teeth for a tin of Chicken & Stars!

There is Knorr chicken and noodle soup packets that are like the Lipton ones in the US.  I keep a couple packets in my cupboard for times like that.

I can highly recommend Loyd Grossman's Chicken & Vegetable Soup, which comes in a pouch (in the regular tinned soup aisles, usually) and has conchigle pasta as its *noodles.*  It's a great "sickie day" soup, comforting, delicious--and no MSG!

usuk2004, for a clear broth, Knorr makes something called Simply Stock, which is in a pouch and comes in Chicken, Vegetable and Beef varieties--again, for those of us who are allergic, there's no MSG.  And the stuff is really good.   :)

Oh that's a blast from the past for me!  I can't eat it now 'cause I'm vegetarian but I do remember how much I enjoyed it!  Also, the alphabet soup with a boloney sandwich.

I make large batches of homemade chicken broth & bung them in the freezer.  Then voila'!  Quick soup whenever you want it.

(I can't really stand tinned soup -- always thought I just didn't like soup at all, until I started making my own.  But the Campbells can be good for recipes, the cream soups, etc as long as your body can tolerate the salt therein -- I'm not so good with that.)

Sainsbury's has instant chicken noodle soup.  I stocked up last time I was sick because I didn't want hearty scotch broth either.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.
