They did free burritos a few weeks back during a Friday lunchtime - now I wish I'd made the effort to get over there!

I told my British fiance about this place after reading this thread tonight, and he immediately said we HAD TO GO NOW. (He LOVES Chipotle, has the t-shirts and everything!) Even though it was 8pm, we live in South London, and the place closes at 9 on Sundays, we ran to the tube and made it there about 8:50pm after sprinting all over the immediate area around the tube trying to find it - the sign wasn't lit up and it was dark! I think the staff thought we were a bit mad as we turned up out of breath, sprinting inside, and with huge grins on our faces!

He had a steak burrito and I had a chicken burrito and they were SO good - a bit colder than Chipotle's, but I think that is because it was the end of the night. It tastes about about as similar to Chipotle as you can get - I think people who aren't as addicted as he is wouldn't notice much of a difference at all! Just be careful to state how much of each thing you want in your taco/burrito - the staff aren't as carefully trained in good proportions as they are at Chipotle. The assembly line production, tortilla warmers, etc are the same - its wonderful! We will be driving through North London tomorrow evening and he wants to go back to try the tacos - I think this will be his new fave restaurant in all of London.

Just go and try it. Seriously, this place is amazing. The hype is worth it.

That has to be the best UK-Yankee post EVUH!!  ;D ;D ;D

Please post your (and your fiance's) thoughts on the tacos once you've tried them!

How on earth did you manage to get to Mucho Mas from South London in less than an hour btw!!?  :o

I love that story. Sounds like something my husband would do. I can't wait to try this place, and am so glad that it's not very far from where I live.

Do they have the burrito bowls like they do at Chipotle?

They don't have burrito bowls on the menu but they should have all the ingredints to make one (isn't a burrito bowl basically a burrito sans tortilla, served in a bowl)?

Perhaps they'll make you one as a special order? ;)

Both! Takeaway AND eat in!  :D

If you go, will you post your thoughts on the place?

Another heads-up!

For anyone visiting Kensington with a burrito craving, Whole Foods Market in Kensington has an ickle burrito bar in their second floor food court!

Their burritos are surprisingly good and good value at £5-£6 a pop.

They make your burrito to order using an assembly line format, just like Mucho Mas and Chipotle! They have a good selection of fillings and options to choose from.

Has anyone tried one of these WFM burritos?

If I go, I will post positive reviews on every single London restaurant website I can to promote the place!  I'm all about supporting local business, especially when they provide a top-notch product!!

We definitely will!! Might even go back tonight...mmm mmm!

And how we did it...we live about 10 minutes from Tooting Bec (on the Northern line) - so we RAN to the tube, got there in about 5 minutes, and luckily Angel is on the Northern line too, so it was only a 30min tube journey. Basically, sprinting combined with a (rare) quick tube helped!

Okay, we went to Mucho Mas last night (ever since reading this thread on Monday, I've been itching all week!).

DF is a HUGE Chipotle fan ever since I first took him to one when we visited the US.  He absolutely loved it.  I got a burrito with grilled steak.  The meat was delicious with a wonderful chargrilled flavor and yummy marinade.  DF got the shredded beef, which I thought was okay - less smoky flavor and more spices.  Over all, it was pretty much EXACTLY like Chipotle - cilantro-y rice, black beans, sour cream, salsa, etc.  I got the salsa verde, which was delicious.  The pico de gallo was extremely fresh-tasting and some of the best I've seriously had in ages.

My only complaint was that my rice was cold.  Everything else was warm inside the burrito except that...might've been because it was the end of the day, but I could really have cared less.

Delicious.  Will try the chicken next time, but heartily recommend the grilled steak as your meat.  DF said the black beans were great (I hate black beans) and his red salsa (the spiciest one) had a great kick.  They have Cholula sauce on the tables if the salsas aren't hot enough for you!  We were feeling cheap, so didn't try the guacamole.

Now if only there was a Mucho Mas in south London!  Maybe not, or else I'd gain 100 pounds :D.

Mr. Karrit and I are going tonight after a visit to the Terracotta Soldiers.  Can't decide which I am looking forward to most.

Thanks so much for posting your discovery!

Hey everyone - I own Mucho Mas together with my business partner Dan Houghton... just stumbled across this thread while checking out reviews for the restaurant... Thanks so much for all the positive comments!!!... I really appreciate it... We've been open for six weeks now and it's been an amazing experience... With the launch behind us we're now focusing on how to continually improve the food and the experience at the restaurant... any suggestions greatly appreciated. Coming additions to the menu include more beans (pinto and possibly refried), some desserts, some soups (black bean and tortilla), naked burritos (no tortilla), and possibly even things like mini-quesadillas and tostadas (not 100% sure on those two but will at least test out as "specials" for a period to see how they go)... We're also thinking about adding a cheese sauce to dribble over the fresh tortilla chips we cook on site.

We're soon going to finish the upstairs, expanding the restaurant with additional seating during the day, and bar for the evening...

Check out UKTVFood's "Market Kitchen" if you get the chance. I'll be appearing together with Tana Ramsay (Gordan Ramsay's wife) as the last segment of the show - I'm told it will air on Oct 25th. During the segment we talk very briefly about the restaurant before I go through a simple recipe for a tasty chicken burrito. I had to leave the rice out as we didn't have time, and kept some other things super simple for viewers (like the beans). I've never done something like that so I have no idea how the segment will turn out, but keeping fingers crossed... it's only thanks to all the positive reviews from people that they even contacted us in the first place... so thanks again everyone... any questions/suggestions please, please let me know. email is eric@mucho-mas.co.uk

Anybody interested in sharing their thoughts with the wider UK please do...here's some review sites we've appeared on:

How very cool that one of the owners has replied to this post! Maybe they will expand to other areas of the UK after reading everyone's praises on here.  ;D

Wow, thanks for the awesome post, Eric!!  Don't worry, we'll definitely post loads of praise along with ways to improve (we tend to be a picky bunch around here :P).

The new plans sound great.  I would only say that a) don't run before you can walk; b) stick to simple things and do them brilliantly (which you're already doing).  Going with more, complex dishes might lower your already excellent standards of quality.

My only 'critique', as it were, was that the food in my burrito was slightly cold and our drinks slightly warm!  We were there around 6:30pm, so it's not like it was right before close.

That said, all the best luck!  I think you'll definitely have some steady business from us lot :D.  I'm sure I can think of a few people that are more than willing to be new dish guinea pigs, if you ever need any! :-P
