Citibank US Dollar Current Account
« on: October 05, 2007, 09:21:29 PM »
Hi,

I've been lurking around the boards for a while but have never posted.  I'm about to move to London in the next few weeks and I'm hoping to hit the ground running when it comes to bank accounts.

Is anyone familiar with Citibanks "US Dollar Current Account"?  I have bills in the US that I still need to pay but I will also need a Sterling account to deposit my UK paycheck.  Is this particular account economical and prudent?

Thanks - Josh

I could have gone that way, but decided to just keep an account open in the States instead...my dad is a co-user of the account which means that he can add or remove money if I need.  I just send money to that account via xe.com, which works fine.  I didn't think I'd alway have the money needed to not get charged on a monthly basis.  If you are going to get paid a bunch and have the amount of money needed to put into your account (and keep in the account), then I think it's a good deal.

I don't know if this is very pertinent to you but I had such an account when I was living in Japan and will be considering it again when I move to England.
If you can keep the minimum it's a pretty nice thing to have if you travel a lot.  Also, if the branch is relatively close to you it is a good idea.  That was the only complaint I had about citibank, their branches are a bit far away.
When you make the account, make sure you note that you will be going off and living somewhere.  They wil tell you how to transfer things and how to access it.
