I heart Costco
« on: October 06, 2007, 04:44:33 PM »
I went to my local Costco today and they have changed so much! They now have a "deli" where they have food ready to cook (lasagna, shepherds pie, Chicken and Asparagus in white wine sauce...things along those lines) The baby back ribs and much cheaper, and they have a new variety of ziploc bags.

Man, I freaking love Costco....

We went for the first time today and it was a great experience!  I'd been to Sam's Club in the States, but I thought Costco was better in lots of ways.  There were plenty of things we actually buy on a regular basis, so we'll certainly be going back.

And I can't wait until I have something to celebrate because I SOOOO want one of their big cakes -- had a bit of one at a birthday party last week and it was delicious!   :)

OH I have heard about those!!!! ;D

Sadly, our Costco membership expired, largely unused because DH is the only one who drives & he hates to go there.  That said, once I get my full licence, I'm getting that bad boy back (the Costco membership) & going shopping with a vengeance!

Yes you can!! And they call "sue" when you use your US card. Its fantastic.
When I am in Costco I always pretend that I walk into the one in Manchester and I walk out of the store into the parking lot in NY, to the one near my parents house.

I live in a bit of a fantasy world. sometimes.

Yeah, I think of it as a bit of American soil.  It's reassuring.  The one in Milton Keynes (and I assume, all others worldwide) looks almost exactly like the one we used to go to near Seattle inside.  I just wish they carried the Kirkland dryer sheets, but I love you anyway Costco!!! :D
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

It's good that you can, because the membership requirements here are STRICT.  You have to be a member of a selected group of professions to be eligible.  I wouldn't be able to go if my US membership wasn't honored.  I just renew online.

That's what I thought, but they didn't even ask us about our professions when we got our cards.  We just showed them our payslips (we both work at a uni, but they had no way of knowing if we were school deans part-time student cashiers in the school shop) and a recent utility bill, and that was it -- in all it took about 5 minutes from approaching the desk to walking away with our cards.

I'm not sure if in that instance they care. I *think* you just have to be employed by an educational institution.

Lola, where is the one in your area?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

It's across the street from the MetroCentre!   :D

Yeah, education is an approved profession, so as long as you're employed by an educational institution, they don't care.  Ironic, really.  We're both archaeologists who are employed by a unit which is also a charitable trust (Heritage Lincolnshire), but we wouldn't qualify that way, even though we do public education outreach.

Cool. If we move in with the in-laws, it will be good to know there's one we can get to. I thought the closest was Manchester which is no good. We don't go much, but I love it when we do!
