I did that, too! But because I liked it better than in a frying pan. And I used to use sharp Vermont cheddar, not American cheese. So I guess I haven't been eating grilled cheese sammidges all these years!??

Using sharp vermont cheddar is way good, but cooking it in a toaster oven unfortunately disqualifies it for grilled cheese status.  Sorry.

Ah, well. I'll stick to my toasted sandwiches then.  :-\\\\

There really is no better combo than a grilled cheese sandwich (no matter how simple or complicated you want it to be) and a bowl of (ideally) Campbell's tomato soup...

I totally agree ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]  I told Dh when we are at my sisters house next month one day for lunch I'm making him one of my favorite meals that I used to eat all the time.  [smiley=chef.gif]  Grilled cheese sandwich & Campbells tomato soup my little piece of heaven.   [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Ideally, I have Saltines with my soup, as well as the grilled cheese! YUM!!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I do mine on the George Foreman grill...makes it so easy, and I get to pretend they are healthier!

I tried that once, but the cheese all melted and dripped out (because the grill is designed on a slant). How did you get around that?

I was about to ask the same!  I would love to do it on the foreman!

I am very popular in my house because Saturday's lunch was grilled cheese made with bakery bread custom sliced (by me!) and slices of medium cheddar with mugs of thick creamy gorgeous cream of tomato soup...mmm mmm good!

I don't know, it's just never happened to me.  Perhaps I have a gravity defying grill!

So buttering the bread really is the trick! These are the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever made.

I decided to splash a little Worcestershire sauce on my grilled cheese and tomato sandwich (It's Brit/American fusion!). Yum.

And yes, this is the second time this week I've had grilled cheese for dinner.

And now I'm craving PB&J thanks to the other thread!

I make the best grilled cheese! Miracle whip, dairylea slices (or kraft) and lots of butter in the pan with the bread, that's the trick, butter and lots of it! Great when pmsing :)

Hot Miracle Whip??
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

I do it on the foreman as well, they don't leak. I just don't put the cheese exactly to the edge, to allow for melting/spreading room.
