DH brought up the subject of Grilled Cheese Sandwiches up all by himself and has promised to make me one with Campbells Tomato Soup (I swear he must read these posts sometimes yet i know for sure that he doesn't!).

I'm confused that it's called Grilled when it seems to be to be Fried...but looking forward to it all the same!

I do it on the foreman as well, they don't leak. I just don't put the cheese exactly to the edge, to allow for melting/spreading room.

Maybe I'm over-cheesing mine. I like cheese. Cheese is good.

Yes it is! ;D I like leaky grilled cheese, when the cheese around the edges of the bread gets nice and crispy.

I like cheese too, LOVE Cheese!! Pile it up in the middle, but keep it away from the edges. I use homemade bread too, (breadmaker) so that might be a bit of a difference too.

I can't find it now, but saw an article the other day about additions to comfort food and they showed grilled cheese with thinly sliced pear in the middle that looked so yum! Craving grilled cheese now,so hungry.

I know what you mean, CarolW. My mom never fried (and that's what it is) her sandwiches in a pan on the stove/hob. She always grilled them in the oven, and there's a big difference, believe me.  ;)

i think there's a difference in terminology with the word 'grill'  between us and the US.

Yes, in the US it's generally referred to as the broiler. The grill (or more likely 'to grill something') would almost always mean on the BBQ.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

But American grilled cheese isnt done on the barbecue... it's fried in a pan on the stovetop.  Does make you wonder why it was ever called 'grilled' cheese!

I love them too! I can't get enough and unless I'm at a seafood restaurant, it's my appetizer of choice!  ;D

My dad calls them 'toasted' cheese sandwiches. Again, not made in the toaster, so who knows!
