Name Change or FLR(M) first?

I don't know if this matters too much, but is it best to get your name changed in your passport first, or your FLR?

I got my FLR months before I made it to the Embassy to change my passport.  I don't think it matters much, quite frankly.  The stamp for FLR is just a rubber stamp w/out a name on it.

My FLR is a fancy multi-colored embossed and hologrammed sticker with my photo and my name (maiden name) on it. Is this a new format?

Ok, so I'm smug.

Is it FLR or Entry Clearance?  Did you get it in the US or the UK?

It's the FLR sticker I got in the UK when I switched over from my fiancee visa. (which was also a fancy sticker, but without the photo).
Ok, so I'm smug.

That must have changed recently, because my FLR is simply a rubber stamp with an expiry of 17 April 2005.

So you technically have 2 photos in your passport now?

Yep...they required a recent passport photo for the visa, and it looks as if they scanned it and printed it out as part of the visa sticker. It's all very high-tech looking :)

Wonder if it's going to be like that for my ILR this time next year?  Sounds very cool and I'm highly jealous!   ;)

I'm jealous too! My FLR stamp was *highly* disappointing after getting such a cool, pretty, colorful fiancee visa from Chicago - - I was hoping for something more than a smudgy little black rubber stamp!
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

I know - you can barely read most of mine - except the expiry date.  That sure is clear!  :P

Maybe they got sick of people saying '250 quid, stacks of paperwork, and months of heartache.....FOR THIS?!!?'

So... my fiancee is now in the country, we're getting married August 14th... all is well.

Just to clarify - it doesn't matter if we get the FLR(M) or my fiancee's name changed in her passport first?

Nope, doesn't matter one bit.  As a safety measure, she can carry around your marriage certificate if there are any questions about maiden v. married name in the future.

It must definiely be recent to have the photo on the visa. DH didn't have that on either his fiancé visa, FLR in UK, FLR from US (long story!) or ILR.
