I've actually read that cats don't really have a thirst drive and have to be very dehydrated before they'll feel like drinking. I've also read not to wet the dry food because of bacteria.

My cat had dry stools before I switched her to wet food. I would check with the vet, but I think it's probably an issue of hydration.

I'm glad the oil is working.  :)

I don't think there's a problem with adding a little bit of filtered water, lukewarm, to your cat's wet food. A vet recommended that to me years ago.

My vet recently told me to do that.  She won't eat dry food otherwise.

I've also heard not to feed them dry food unless necessary, but that's a whole other thread. I used to feed my cat dry food but she kept getting UTIs so I had to switch and that's when I read all that stuff.

Scarlett, put extra water in their WET food,as well--otherwise dry food turns to mush and they won't eat it.

She's off of dry food now. She just eats it if we go out of town. Thanks though.

My cats won't eat wet food. They get excited about it for the first minute, then they walk away and let it get all dry and hard. The prescription wet food isn't nice and meaty like the kind you can get at the grocery store. they actually prefer the dry food. In the US I had one of those water fountains for them with the constantly moving water. They loved it, but it's too expensive for me to get them one here right now. Regardless, they both drink a fair amount of water and it's something I've always kept an eye on since they both have bladder issues. I put fresh out for them every morning, so I can see how much they're getting.

That's good.  :)

ChloĆ« wouldn't eat wet food either. I had to force it. She didn't let herself get too hungry.  ;) I just slowly switched it by blending dry with wet. ChloĆ« will only eat the chunky style. She doesn't like the ground up one and won't touch it at all.  At least I was able to get her on wet food, I'm not too concerned about having to only buy chunky.
