Just my two cents on PB&J, eat it all the time, and if no jam then banana's, also another variation if I am out of bread, PB&J on a warm tortilla...

It is written:  no pork product shall ever come together with a maple syrup product, and henceforth shall they ever be kept asunder.

Here endeth the lesson.

I'm the same.

DB and I have the conversation on PB & J and then that leads to a discussion of the differences between jam and jelly.

jelly=jelled fruit juice
jam=fruit juice and pulp
preserves=whole fruit

I can't remember if DB has tried a pb & J sandwich before, I'll have to ask him. I know he's said he thinks it's gross.

Amen! ;D

My son loves those corndog type things made with a breakfast sausage covered in pancake on a stick and dipped in syrup. It just looks icky to me. [smiley=bleck.gif] Oh and he even likes the blueberry pancake ones. Ugh!

Mmm, is there anything better than when the maple syrup runneth over the pancakes and puddles underneath the sausage or bacon or SCRAPPLE?!  Yum!

Back to the ol' PB argument  ;), if anyone was put off by the taste of PB and jam together because of the sweetness of both the jam and (most) American style pb's, you can get a no sugar/low salt, very natural pb variety that works very well with the sweetness of jam or honey.  (Smuckers makes one; I think Skippy might make one now; Whole Foods probably has its own 365 brand or similar.)

But to make it 'proper' I want GRAPE jelly/jam. And speaking of jam, I could totally rip into a Monte Cristo Sandwich right about now. Something else that doesn't exist over here?
Oh, and I can't send a pb&j sandwich in my son's school lunch, as there are NO peanut ingredients allowed brought into the school.  :(

I have found Damson Jam to be a more than acceptable substitute for Grape Jelly.  My kids can't tell the difference anymore.

I have never tasted damson jam, I'll have to give it a try. I did have a recipe somewhere for making grape jam out of purple grape juice......but couldn't find the grape juice! :-\\\\ Now that I know where to get the grape juice, I might give that a go.

Traditional children's birthday party fare! Yum!

I was absolutely disgusted when I had this discussion (not too long before this thread appeared, actually!) with DF.  Not only do they usually eat Jell-O/jelly and ice cream at children's birthday parties, but the cake is given out to take home!  What gives?  Cake is for eating!! :-P  Otherwise, what's the point of having the cake in the first place, if not to eat it.

Not to mention the combination of ice cream and Jell-O/jelly sounds absolutely disgusting (looks it, too).

Have you ever tasted most kids' birthday cakes? They're either bought from a shop or homemade and like a brick.....I bin all that come in the house from parties!

I think it's really nice.

What's the difference between that and having a bowl of Jell-O with a dollop of Cool Whip on top?
